Finding the best giant insect miniatures 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I wanted to start this thread to collect resources for finding some of the best 28mm 28 mm scale sources of giant insect miniatures out there. I also thought we could use this thread to let manufactures know which giant insects may need new sculpts and/or better (more exciting) sculpts produced.

I would like to start part 1 of this thread by calling for more giant praying mantis miniatures to be produced. I have found very few high quality sculpts of these.

Below is a picture from rebel miniatures of a star ship trooper warrior mantis. I have also included a picture of a good paper craft praying mantis miniature with good dimensions and design. Does anyone else know of companies out there producing high quality giant praying mantis miniatures for game play? Thanks for any leads.

Part 2 of this thread will be to look at giant wasp and giant bee miniatures. There seems to be very few of these out there with truly great sculpts and/or poses. Honestly I think we need at least two poses for giant wasps and bees from a company with a high quality sculpt. One pose could be flying and the second would be in a stinging pose (picture 1) The best miniatures I have found out there are the giant wasps from alphaforgegames.com, but they seem to have closed their doors and I am unsure who is producing them now. The sculpt has a goblin warrior mounted on the flying wasp, but the sculpt details on the wasp and the size compared to a 28mm figure is wonderful! The third picture I have included are the best scale and designed bee figures I have found. Don't laugh, but they are made from lego pieces. Still the very best size, style, and positioning I have seen. Great size ratio to a miniature if those lego people were 28mm minis. Hopefully we can see some companies produce more variety of wasp and bee giant miniatures for when we want an adventure where we pass through a hive. Anybody have ideas for producing modular hive terrain (wink wink nudge nudge)?

Part 3 (Finding long modular giant centipedes)

I really think a great adventure would be fighting a giant centipede winding through a labyrinth like maze. One of the best miniatures I have found out there to design a really long centipede would follow a robotic sci-fi theme. These would be the forgeworld necron canoptek tomb stalkers. I only wish they sold modular sections to make them longer since I would love to see one of these tomb stalkers at 6x the length and winding through a DF maze of corridors. Your adventure party could be fighting several different sections of the beast at once in different parts of the maze.

I really wish there was a fantasy equivalent sized sculpt of a giant centipede and if you could buy extra leg and body sections to make it longer that would be even better! I imagine linking each body section with a flexible cable drilled through it so you could re-position the giant centipede to wind through the dungeon corridors. Also a giant clear plastic support piece that could support the front upper body when it reared up to attack would be a must. (hopefully a company out there might be willing to take on this challenge for a fantasy giant centipede)

Part 4: Who produces the best giant scorpion miniatures out there?

My favorite giant scorpion miniature that I have seen produced out there is from heresy miniatures.

Below is a picture of the Heresy scorpion which has a great design and size to the figure. Does anybody else have some favorite scorpions out there?

Part 5: Which are your favorite giant spider sculpts out there. Giant spiders are actually much easier to find than many of the previous giant insects I have listed earlier. My favorites come from spellcrow miniatures, heresy miniatures, otherworld miniatures, and warhammer. Pictures shown in the order listed above.

@jackattack

Thank you for the links. I don't think I had seen the hive terrain forum links before. Something like that with curved corner sections and straight sections that could be stacked would be awesome if a company every produced it. Sections that could be used to form hexagonal open doors or corridors would be great as well.

@kradio

Thanks for the scorpion link. I had never seen that one. How large is the mini? I found some more reference shots of this scorpion from pardulon miniatures. Certainly one of the best out there.

Part 6: Giant mutant fly monsters would be a great addition to a Dwarven forge modular sewer. The best I have found come from reapers cichastus fly demon and the giant bloated fly miniature from zealot miniatures

Part 7: Giant firefly miniatures

I have had a very difficult time finding giant dragonfly miniatures that I feel are high quality sculpts. The only one I've seen recently that I liked is actually a steampunk dragonfly machine from frozen planet studios. Does anyone know where there are some good fantasy giant firefly miniatures out there? fps14.tripod.com/id11.html
