It's an entire Barbie HOUSE! Every stitch of carpet in the place is pink! Needless to say, the first order of business is tearing it all out and replacing it.

Don't ask me to guess what the previous owners were thinking. Even my thought process doesn't get that demented. I'll see about taking pictures as I progress.

And, circumvented or aborted, I'm looking forward to seeing the changes.

I definitely think that seeing the progress pics from the start to the end would be beneficial for folks here.
Do you have a nice digicam?
That way we can see the place in all its glory from start to finish.

Change has not happened enough YC.
I innocently comment on what appears to be a joke in very bad taste and Zuggy is back to his usual flaming self.
I have just publically posted my concession to him.
What is the point of further dialogue?
He chooses to misconstrue and twist nearly everything I type.
Only my optimism that all people can be reached kept me going.
No more.
My map of the DF Forum says "Here there be ...." where he exists.
I leave it blank in the effort to play nice.

We're still moving into the place now (hence my absence from the board of late), but I should be able to start work soon. I'll take pics along the way.

Not really. All the work so far has been upstairs. I'll try to get a pic or two to show everyone what I have to work with.

There's a bathroom down there, but I need to reposition the plumbing so free up some space. It's going to be a project, for sure.

On the positive side, the spider death toll is up to 111. (Yes, triple digits!)

Which species are you having fun with?
Our challenge here is a hunter spider called a Hobo whose body usually averages about the size of my thumb nail.
It is very aggressive even with humans and its neurotoxin is potent enough to bother normal folks and humans with spider toxin allergies end up in the ER real quick.
We do not have any problems in the house proper thanks to our cats.
Our three "sentries" are well able to take care of most problems like spiders, roaches, rats, mice, etc. wherever we have lived.
Had two hobos two months back try make a match of it with the three cats in the basement.
The four of us humans sat on the stairs cheering on our side.
The end finally came when one spider got its eight eyes too focused on one cat and another, our chocolate-point Siamese Gladius, slipped in behind and got it.
3-on-1 was too much for the last one, but it was surrounded and could not get away.
Our 16yo cat, a brawny white cat with a grey Corinthian-style helmet-like headpatch named Elmo, took it down in grand style showing off to the two 11yo cats, Gladius and our slim black cat Pilum, who he has had in his care since they were kittens.

The only pest that the kitty boys seem to be unable to handle are ants.
I do not know why they kitty boys have trouble, but my sons are able to deal with scouts, and my wife has developed this gravel stuff that ants find attractive and yummy but poisonous so they take it home with them, which she makes easy for them to do so by sprinkling it on their hill and their main trails.
Usually after two applications of that gravel stuff, the ant problem is over for the season.
They always come back the next year though and the battle starts all over again.

Anyway, best of luck and strategy against your arachnid opponents.
Might want to think about picking up 2-3 cats or terriers to deal with the spider problem YC.
The cats make our lives much easier with such pests.

Not sure about species. As far as I'm concerned, there are only two kinds of spiders: Dead and Gonna-Be-Dead. The house was empty for about 6 months before I bought it, so it's like Spiderpalooza down there.

Have to pass on the cats, since I'm allergic, but my trusty shop vac does just fine.

Oh, and just as an aside:

Had two hobos two months back try make a match of it with the three cats in the basement.

I'm choosing to take this sentence completely out of context, because it makes me chuckle so much. :)

That is a shame since the cats only have to be fed a bit twice a day and they go after the spiders without direct supervision unlike the shopvac.
Try out a couple small terriers instead then, especially ones with wiry hair which will be much different than cat fur.

Why so funny?
Hobos are aggressive and will try to fight it out with mammals like cats and dogs.
Granted they are not as aggressive as some of their larger South American cousins (anyone here lived their before - some of those spiders make tarantulas look small), but still they are willing to fight, not just bluff and run.
Not sure a dog could actually beat one, but cats have the reflexes to do so.
I have always wondered if importing a mongoose would be even better.
Friend of mine in India has three as pets, including one named after Kipling's Riki-Tiki-Tavi, one for each of his three children.
If they can take out snakes, they should be able to take out aggressive spiders.
So what was so funny YC.

I'm thinking hobos as in nomadic homeless people, not as in nasty cat-fighting spiders.
