David A. Trampier, RIP 8 Months ago
Iconic DnD artist Dave Trampier passed away this week. Even if you somehow don't know his name, you know his art. It defined Dungeons and Dragons in the late 70s and early 80s.
Rest in peace, Tramp.

The art of Dave Trampier, aka DAT, helped to define the look of AD&D back in the day. His use of perspective was striking, and the way he created texture through inking was simply amazing. I'll never forget his illustration of Emirikol the Chaotic, galloping through the narrow streets of a fantasy city while striking down a guardsman with a bolt of mystic energy.

But for me, his seminal work was Wormy. The artwork and wry humor made it an instant classic. I'll always remember the Dwarves beseeching for the return of their purloined bowling balls, which Wormy was using as billiard balls.

What dragon hath no lust for gold
Would steal instead the balls we bowled
O worm take heed, thy evil deed
Hath caused our summer leagues to fold!

Sadly, DAT never finished the series. But he has left behind a legacy that will endure long after his death.
