Has anyone else seen this site and Character sheet?

The Only Sheet

I downloaded the demo and it's got a LOT of nifty stuff for a character sheet. It's all built off Excel. The admin is quick to support the product and is a pretty nice guy.

That looks wonderful. I like that its formatted like the sheet I've been use to using for 10 years. I will be checking out the demo for sure, likely to purchase. Thanx for pointing this out

have not seen that.

I use Hero lab and before that heroworkshop.

not hip on the excel format as other excel character sheet maker were unwieldy (IMO)

but I may check out the demo version of this one (if it can be used in Openoffice)

thanks for the find.

You surely meant LibreOffice... just a slip of the fingers on the keyboard.

See here why you should be using LibreOffice (unless you work for Sun Microsystems, then I would understand - tongue in cheek*):

www.datamation.com/applications/apache-openoffice-vs.-libreoffice-1.html

* I switched to LibreOffice when I found out about the new fork and the whole fiasco behind it not too long after it happened... but not many know outside techie circles why there's now two open office versions.

If OpenOffice and LibreOffice supports visual basic within excel TOS will work. I think it does work with them, i'm not sure. :(

that passed so far over my head, I strained my neck looking up. but I take it to mean if I am using openoffice, I should switch to LibreOffice. :D

my only issues is that I have MS office at work and OpenOffice at home and switching back and forth sometimes breaks my brain.

both links popup smacked me (even with my popup blocker on hmmmmm) so i could not read the whole debate.

but will still try The Only Sheet demo and see if it works for me.

@TK266,
Sorry. Just a bit of techie politics.

LibreOffice is an offshoot of OpenOffice. OpenOffice was the original open-source office software. Sun Microsystems open-sourced it in 2000 and announced it would be run by a neutral foundation, which never happened. This meant that anyone who wanted to could get access to the source code hand help develop/improve it. After years of perceived neglect by Sun and then Oracle (who bought Sun), many of the developers decided to create a fork of the source code and began developing their fork (offshoot or version) under the name, LibreOffice. These members of the OpenOffice.org community announced a non-profit called The Document Foundation to administer the project. The goal was to produce a vendor-independent office suite with ODF support and without any copyright assignment requirements. See here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOffice.org#Forks_and_derivative_software

Most Linux distributions have replaced OpenOffice and AppacheOffice (another offshoot) with LibreOffice.

Thanks! The work that eventually became TOS+ began in late 2003!! yes, 10 years ago! The Wikipedia entry on The Only Sheet has the history (and name changes) for the Sheet :D

I find it funny that you say that about unwieldy sheets... The *reason* I began working in my own Character Sheet was exactly because of that: The existing Excel sheets were incomprehensible to me. I told myself there must be an easier way! Obviously, as the Sheet became more and more powerful, people who do not know how to use it might bulk at their perceived complexity: Because of that, a few videos are available to help people start using it (the video library is here)

As for 'Openoffice' (or other non-Excel workbook), TOS+ *requires* VBA, which, to my knowledge, is proprietary to Microsoft... Do let me know if those Excel clones have successfully integrated VBA in their spreadsheet app!
TOS+ *does* work on Both PC and Mac versions of Excel though :D

Happy Gaming!!
