Fantasy Coin Kickstarter 6 Months, 1 Week ago
Just thought I'd mention that a new fantasy coin Kickstarter has popped up. I missed some of the other ones so I'm not sure if this is a good deal or not, but thought I'd post it here just in case someone benefits.

EDIT - Yay! I'm officially an Orc!

Wow, this is a great deal! I haven't been able to find fantasy coins for much less than $1 / coin in bulk purchases and closer to $1.50 each is more typical. I don't know how they did it, but they're under $0.50 per coin, even for smaller quantities. I'm impressed and plan to buy in on this one. Thanks for sharing!

Missed the other coin kickstarters, but $17ppd for 30 coins seems like a good deal. Lucky enough that I prefer that first base set "Fire" coins too. I'm in. thanks for this.

That'll be the third fantasy coin Kickstarter. It's interesting seeing duplicates of product ideas... the funniest one to me are all the KS variations on organized, compact key holders. I once did a search after seeing two and I think I found at least 5 or 6 variations... all claiming to be the best solution.

I went with this KS for fantasy coins: www.kickstarter.com/projects/654503844/rare-elements-elemental-fantasy-currency-set-relau

They've been minting coins for 178 years so I figured they knew what they were doing. ;-)

That being said, I think that the KS the OP posted is pretty cool. They have a nice variety of different themes/races and shapes.

Getting coins in quantities that are actually useful for RPGs can get really expensive. This is the first time I've seen prices that actually make it possible without completely blowing the bank.

I'll probably be backing this one.

They really have a high base, though. I backed another Ks that got that high, but had a far lower base. It looks like the new guys are pretty confident and it is nice to see they have prototypes done already, something the other KS did not.

I'm guessing the high goal is the reason they're able to have such low prices. Bulk orders are magic like that.

Please ignore my original cost estimate. I misunderstood one of the pledge levels and took it to mean they were included twice as many coins as they actually are. It's still the best deal I've seen, but not quite as smoking hot as I misunderstood it to be.

And yeah, I backed one of the original key holders and almost fell out of my chair when I saw 5 or 6 more pop up over the following months. Certain corners of Kickstarter seem to be taking on characteristics of late-night shopping channels.

It's still under $0.50 per coin as long as you get at least two sets. The $24 for one set level only makes sense if you want more than 7 sets. If you want less than that, get the $17 for one set level. And with more than 7 sets, the difference between what you thought it was and what it actually is is pretty small.

So your math was actually fine! :)

I'm in at the "Iron" level.

30 coins for $17 comes out to $0.57 each, if I'm reading that right, and that's a darn good deal.

Re:Fantasy Coin Kickstarter 6 Months, 1 Week ago
So I told my girlfriend about this KS, and said I was considering getting some coins to use for Pathfinder, and she looked at me like I was an idiot.

I told her how it would help people keep track of their money better than numbers on paper, and she looked at me like I was an idiot.

I told her how satisfying it is to actually hold your gold and hear it clink, and she looked at me like I was an idiot. She also told me it seemed unnecessary and difficult to manage.

Finally, I had her bring up the kickstarter page and look at the coins....

She said "Crap, these are like dice; I want all of them."

So yeah, I'm in.

Add another set, and it becomes $0.45! :P
