Need Help Fixing Bent Bones 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Reaper Bones miniatures, that is. Specifically: I picked up a Bones Jabberwock the other day (I've always been partial to that manxome beastie), and I think it's a great sculpt, but it came out of the package pretty warped-- kind of keeled over sideways, so it won't stand up properly.

I tried softening it under really hot tap water, then reshaping and cooling it in snow (since I've got a bunch of -5 F snow lying around here in VT); but although that seemed to work initially, it gradually reverted to its warped shape. Anyone have any suggestions? Do I just need to use hotter water, or over-bend it in the other direction?

Thanks!

I haven't bought any of the bones yet, but as for other minis I've had the same problem with I have dipped them for a couple seconds in boiling water and then held them in place as I dip them in a bowl of ice water. I had only 1 mini that this did not work on. It was an orc paladin promo and his sword just would not stay straight, even with my extreme shock trick. I thought maybe id fix a toothpick to the sword before dipping him and then leaving it attached for a day or so, but I never got around to it

One more tip, ice water will work much better than snow because of the difference in density. You could climb into a pile of snow naked and probably live for hours but freezing waters will kill you in minutes

I was actually packing the snow around the mini to hold it in the new pose. But I'm sure you're right, a more radical and rapid temperature change is likely to work better. I'll give it a try with boiling/ice water.

The importance is on holding it in the pose you want from its hottest point to its coldest point. If you gotta wiggle it around as its cooling it doesn't seem to hold that well afterward. That's why I thought holding it straight with a toothpick might help
