Not only am I a day 1 supporter, I hope to be the FIRST to thrown my money in the KS! I don't know GriffinTamer, but GriffinTamer doesn't strike me as a disorganized, unethical, nor uncommitted individual. I'm also willing to bet that he's "done his homework" and preparation for his upcoming KS. I'm sure he has contingency plans in place for different levels of fund raising. It's also clear to me he's a fervent supporter of our loved hobby, and I firmly believe he will not only deliver the promised goods but ON TIME!

Go GriffinTamer! Watching GriffinTamer (.) (.) roll a Nat 20!

I have backed over 45 project on KS. Yes DF was one of the very few who delivered who they said they would but I have found that most KS under-estimate thier hiccups. I have had approximately 5 that delivered before their due date. And many more late... But I have yet to have one fail to deliver. Also people underestimate their ability I upscale if they are wildly successful whih usually also causes delays.

But I do my research before I back. Risk vs reward. There have been only a handful where I have had serious pledges where I would be upset if they didn't come through. They rest I was willing to handle the risk. Kinda like a night at the casino. I walk in knowing even if I lose x amount of money it was ok. I look at how the creator responds to comments. I look at their updates and level of involvement. I search what I can find out about them and their company. I full expect at some point for a KS that I back to burn me. But I go in knowing that is a possiblity. DF's entire first campaign and fullfillment gave me the confidence to double my risk this time.

Am I willing to risk some for Griffin? Yes. But I Temper that with what I see of him and his work/posts here, his FB page, etc. if he doesn't deliver on hi predicted time table, will I be upset? No. I just expect clear communications in the updates about where things stand.

Good luck griffin. I'm in.

Wow...

Been away from the forum here for a while (doing KS prep stuff, of course... and also a little preliminary organizations stuff for my wedding in May of 2015, so I won't have to worry about that during KS campaign / fulfillment time)... and...

Well, I'm just really excited, and humbled, by all the support expressed here. I'd like to address each of you at length but the post would get stupidly long so I'll just sum it up with a really huge THANK YOU! And assure you that I'm going to do my darnedest to live up to every reasonable expectation.

Is it a pre-sale? Is it an investment? Both, I think. Yes, you'll be (hopefully) pre-buying some great terrain. But you'll also be investing in a new source of great gaming terrain, with a tremendously enthused and grateful creator, that will exist to provide you with more cool stuff down the line. Worthwhile, I hope!

Of course there are some doubts. I'm not a famous sculptor, I don't have an established company. Frankly I'm a wee bit terrified myself. But I know that I'm really loving this whole creative process and the enthusiasm and great ideas coming from the community, and I want to keep this happening for a long time to come.

And the good news is that this doesn't have to go really huge to be a success. There's no way it will happen on anything like the scale of what DF has done with their KS campaigns, and that's a good thing. This is going to be a home business; I don't need multi-thousand dollar injection molding equipment, huge production runs, etc. I've already invested almost everything up front-- mostly in the form of countless hours sculpting and casting-- and all I need is enough to cover a little more equipment (to increase my production capacity) and then time and materials for a reasonable production run so I can keep cost as competitive as possible. With a little help from all of you, that shouldn't be a problem!

No doubt there will be some problems that will arise. Life is like that. But I'm a pretty determined dude; I'm a good creative problem solver, and I know how to work to a deadline; and seeing all this support has got me all the more determined to make this a success.

I also want to add that I hope that this project will, in its own little way, collaterally strengthen DF and its community. Stefan is my hero in this little universe, and my sincere hope is that what I'm doing will complement what he has done with the Forge, adding even more variety and more reasons to buy more DF stuff! (It's certainly had that effect on me!)

So thanks again everyone for all the ideas and support! Stay tuned. This is going to be cool.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that to post on this forum one was required to drink the kickstarter KoolAid! I did not criticize GriffinTamer or his product, but the process of kickstarter. Some more negative news for you all:

www.geekwire.com/2014/attorney-general-asylum-playing-cards-crowdfunded-project/

"If you raise money via Kickstarter and don’t deliver products you promised backers, the government will come after you.
In what is the first consumer protection lawsuit involving crowdfunding, Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson today filed a suit against Ed Nash and his Nashville, Tenn.-based company, Altius Management."

www.businessweek.com/news/2012-08-21/kickstarter-s-funded-projects-see-some-stumbles

gamerant.com/kickstarter-video-game-failure-rate/

In other words, you might want to do a little more research before you invest your money in the kickstarter casino. Dwarven Forge is an established company that I have been dealing with for over 11 years now, but even then I knew it was a small company and when I saw the size of the 1st KS I knew there was risks that they would have issues delivering. The fact that they could not only deliver but ON TIME speaks volumes in this industry when more that 75% do not.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with so many of the kickstarters you backed of your own free volition, but the fact remains that GriffinTamer's is none of them, and he deserves to be given a chance to succeed or fail before anyone starts tarring him with broad brush strokes. Which includes using a thread about his upcoming KS as a platform to vent about your problems with kickstarters in general.

If you had actually read my previous posts, I did wish him good luck on his venture even if we (my wife said no also) cannot accept the risk. I also stated that if he is successful, we would be interested in purchasing his products at retail. So, it was more of a "hey, you have a future customer" and not an attempt to throw water on his effort, but hey go ahead and bash me.

While my track record on KS is simular to brvheart, over 10 that are now a year late or more, I still will take a chance on this KS as it seems he has his master sculpts ready and has a reasonable chance to deliver in a reasonable amount of time.

Re:Dungeon Entrances 7 Months ago
Just caught up on three days worth of posts... i think we all need to relax a bit.

I really hate to stick my nose in the middle of something like this, but i feel the need to stick up for brvheart. I found nothing offensive in his post... to me it read "cool stuff, i want to play but i have been burned and i am afraid, all the best" Somehow that got turned into a condemnation of GriffinTamer.

It is getting to the point where i am afraid to post and i reread what i type to make sure it cannot be misconstrued. Seems like we should all be able to speak our minds politely without fear of being attacked for having said something.

If brvheart's comments led to a discussion of KS purchase vs investment ideologies (which it did) that is appropriate, although probably a whole separate thread since it seems to come up all the time in various threads. But when we start attacking posters because we don't like what they say i don't think it serves the overall dialogue.

Lets all be conscious of what we post, but also take a moment to make sure that we are not reading too much into the posts of others. All our threads will be better for it.

Re:Dungeon Entrances 7 Months ago
Again people seem to misunderstand exactly what KS is.

You are not pre-ordering a product, you are backing a KS and in return are offered "rewards" for your backing.

If you want to pre-order a product then don't use KS.

Also do your research. Given the product/service the KS is raising money to create does the proposal seem reasonable? What do you know about the people/company behind the KS? Do they have a track record of delivering?

Most KS get into trouble simply because the people/company behind it grossly underestimate what is involved in getting from the idea phase to the delivery of product/service phase.

We have perhaps been spoilt because DF has run one of the most professional KSs ever.

So understanding this realise that you are providing money to allow something to happen in return for a reward. If that doesn't suit you then don't back a KS.

Griffin, I love your attitude. Can't wait to jump on your KS.

I'm excited to put some money behind a member of this community that's making cool work. I'd do the same for Old Man Willow, Josh Chunick, John Keebler, or anyone else launching a KS of their creative endeavors.

Really looking forward to seeing how this project evolves.
