A Comprehensive Guide Of Encounters 7 Months, 1 Week ago
I've had this idea for a long time and wanted to post it here to see what everyone came up with. I'm hoping to compile a LARGE list of encounters for as many terrains as possible. Not just monster encounters either things like natural obstacles or anything of that nature the only limitation is the imagination. Put the encounter and the type of terrain it can be found in for example: Chasm, Natural mine/cavern. Or un-climbable cliff, Mountains. Again anything is welcome from traps to creatures to hidden portals to other places so lets see what we can all come up with I look forward to reading all the great ideas!! I run my campaigns in 2E Forgotten Realms not that that matters just for extra information.

Inside a dungeon, the adventurers fall down a square pit trap with no exit except up out of the hole they fell down. Upon trying to find a way out, a gelatinous cube is oozing down the hallway above and "oops!" it slowly, slowly, slowly slides down the walls of the pit as the PCs struggle to find a way out before it envelops them as it comes to rest on the bottom of the pit.

Many moons ago in my 2nd AD&D home brew game. The party had an encounter with a mountain lion on a trail near the top of a steep hill with a rock slide. The encounter started with the party being surprised and the lion pouncing and grabbing the weakest looking humanoid. Lion and victim were now fighting on the moving rock slide with the four legged lion having a distinct advantage. The rest of the party was not able to use missile weapons for fear of killing their comrade and when they entered the rock slide they could either move slower on all fours or risk having the rock slide start moving and bury each of them.

If you want to be really mean just place the gelatinous cube at the bottom of the pit. They know the best way to get food and that sounds like the perfect place :-)
