TOPIC: Excited to be gaming again

Excited to be gaming again 9 Months, 1 Week ago
My friends and I had been gaming together regularly since we met in college in 1995. Sadly, things have slowed to a near halt during the last two years. ENOUGH! We've decided it's time to get back to it, and two of us have started games (one running Pathfinder and I'm running Conan RPG).

With this in mind, I decided to invest in some new gaming stuff to make the game even bigger and better than what we used to do (which used the Room and Passage set my friend has and not much else). I've gotten several new mini houses (Pegasus, Miniature Building Authority), a church (MBA), made a new gaming tabletop, and hit eBay up for some DF sets. I've managed to get my hands on the following sets: a Cavern, a Cavernous Passage, a Room and Passage, and one of the old Room sets. That, combined with a bunch of new dungeon dressing stuff from various places, should make a great dungeon to kickoff my Conan game with. When it's ready, I'll post pics, but I just wanted to express how excited I am and how happy I am to get some Dwarven Forge to play with!

I've been drooling over DF and MBA for a long time. The kickstarter gave me a perfect opportunity to take the plunge, and now I am eagerly plotting further acquisitions while I await caverns in dwarvenite.

I really love this forum, there are so many great ideas flowing. I like being able to buy ready to use products and ones that are easy to assemble and/or paint, but I also love to make stuff.

I am in the process of assembling a new group in my area since so many folks have moved and what not.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

I know what you mean, Dust :-) I've got pink insulating foam all over the place in our spare room right now. I'm working on a rather treacherous stairway for the first game (100 feet tall in minis scale).

MBA stuff is nice, but pricey even compared to Dwarven Forge in my opinion. I got two Dark Age Cottages and the Norman Church. Now that I have them in hand, I feel like the cottages were a little overpriced, but the church was worth every dollar. Now I just have to make interiors for them :-) The church even has one floor in the tower.

@jack - Ha! I have been known to get up to some crazy stuff, but a wee bit of honors biology at the early college levels leaves me ill-equipped to be the next Dr. Frankenstein. I can build some simple robotics, but my skill at coding AI is pretty woeful, no budding Skynets here... but I do wonder if there is a way to mod non-geeks for gaming usage? Dr. Who marathons interspersed with bouts of random good fantasy flicks perhaps?

@Kodiak3d - I have been to the MBA booth a couple times and I have seen many of their pieces elsewhere. Like many manufacturers, not all their products are created equal. They do make some very awesome stuff though. I feel like I can make some things that will look just as good, even if they are slightly less durable. Some items though, I would rather get from them. I am also eyeballing some items from Renaissance Miniatures. Not all of their stuff appeals to me, but they have some nice ones.

Oh, you shouldn't have posted that link. I hadn't heard of them before. Now I have something else to spend money on.

I was very disappointed that I lacked the funds to take advantage of Renaissance Miniatures second kickstarter, I missed the first entirely. I do hope they run another one later on at a time when I am better equipped to take advantage of it.

If you do purchase anything from them, please do share you impressions and some photos. I intend to do the same once I get around to ordering from them. They are unfortunately taking back seat for now to savings for the aforementioned DF and MBA KS.
