OMG Stefan that is so awesome looking. Can not wait for them. Think I may need to back out a little on that other KS to save up more for these. :D

Stefan,

I see that your beautiful sculpts, even though they are following the smaller 2*2 modular system, are very similar and possibly compatible with the classic resin Cavern Sets. I know that when the Game Tiles KickStarter originally launched 9 months ago, many of us were wondering if the original resin MasterMaze would fit alongside the new Dwarvenite Game Tiles pieces. When we finally received the pre-painted pieces in October, it turned out that the paint scheme was quite different and darker. It is not such a big deal because "rocky" walls don't necessarily fit anyway next to castle walls made with "bricks". Nevertheless, it would be really FANTASTIC if the resin Cavern Set paint scheme would match the Game Tiles Dwarvenite Cavern Sets. I know that both products are made in different facilities and might even be using different paints to fit with the material. Nevertheless, please please please tell us that there is hope that both paint jobs will make 4*4 pieces fit together with the 2*2 pieces. Just saying it this way makes me wonder if the slight size increase of a "2*2" piece from Dwarvenite as compared to a "2*2" piece from MasterMaze resin is preventing useful and convenient mix and match between both sets.

I would love to buy a resin cave set or two... IFF the paints match the Dwarvenite.

Looking awesome! I think I'll stay in the other one too though, as the paint scheme of Utah/Arizona sandstone really looks different than the traditional DF caverns and I like their work. Looks like I'll have to have both! ;)

Regarding the casting material, it is going to be Excalibur die stone. This material is a fancy high strength plaster. I found that info through an official Iron Ring Games channel in the comment section of this KS. This means in my opinion that these pieces will break more easily than DF's original MasterMaze resin lines. I found it a little misleading that the real name of the casting material was not mentioned on the main page and that it was referred to as "dye stone", whatever that is. [/quote]

For the record, Dental Stone is harder than resin by a good spell. That Excalibur has a 18,000 psi compression strength, and is VERY heavy. It's incredibly tough, durable stuff. Resins like Smoothcast have a tensile strength of 3,000 psi. Depending on the force exerted, Excalibur is either 1/2 as strong (tensile/shear) or 10 times weaker (crush).

Still, I've used it and it's tough as nails. Don't count it out.

I cast in both and while products like Merlin's Magic and Excalibur are very strong they are not as durable as most resin. For the high-end plasters to be their best they must be mixed precisely and cured to exact specifications to achieve 12,000-18,000 psi.
