New Kickstarter with Caverns (Not DF, sadly) 1 Year ago
There's a new kickstarter that has some decent looking caverns if anyone needs something to tide them over until February.

www.kickstarter.com/projects/458846070/labyrinths-customized-modular-dungeon-terrain

I really want that bridge... I don't own a lot of Hirst Arts stuff as I like DF more, but that things is calling my name.

I wish we knew what the prepainted paint scheme would be for the DF caverns so I'd know if the bridge would match. :P

Labyrinths are made from a grey color-infused, high strength dye stone, making the game pieces durable, affordable, and visually appealing right out of the box.

So what is dye stone and how does it compare to the strength/durability of Dwarven Forge resin?

These can be found WAY cheaper than that KS.

The only thing of interest to me there is the varied prints on the floor tiles, and some of the larger set pieces but there isn't an economical option for those.

AnimeSensei, Thanks for letting us know about this KS.
Regarding the bridge, do you know about MBA's rope bridge? It has been on my "to-buy" list for a long time now.

Regarding the casting material, it is going to be Excalibur die stone. This material is a fancy high strength plaster. I found that info through an official Iron Ring Games channel in the comment section of this KS. This means in my opinion that these pieces will break more easily than DF's original MasterMaze resin lines. I found it a little misleading that the real name of the casting material was not mentioned on the main page and that it was referred to as "dye stone", whatever that is.

Nevertheless, it is great to have another supplier of HA pieces. You can build lots of intricate rooms with these pieces. Just don't expect an easy-to-assemble very modular dungeon layout system such as what DF provided with Game Tiles for dungeons and castles. May I advise modular cavern layout enthusiasts to wait until the next DF KS?

Some of their peices interest me. I like the idea of a hidden floor of acid or whatever dangerous material covered by normal looking stones. They have enough unique pieces that i might have bought in earlier had I known and been able to get those peieces.

As it is I will wait until (read as if) they get to commercial status.

This is not a casual decision as the people involved are fairly close to my geographic area (atlantic canada) and i may kick in for an add-on or two just to get on the mailing list but most of the regular stuff is either available on ebay or not really useful in combination with DF/GT.

They need more awesome items like the break-away bridge - not just normal tiles to entice me and my $.

glad to hear that they are using Excalibur. I was wondering what casting material they were using and the Dental Plaster/Excalibur is a good material, resists chipping and breaking, unlike many other lower breaking point plasters.

I do wish that Itar's stuff would arrive soon, so that I can use it with my DF tiles, and will get over the itch to buy more! :)

Some of it looks interesting but I will save my $ for DF's caverns KS.

I can pick up the few things I really like later after I have been either praised or forgiven for my very larger DF caverns purchase.

They're a Canadian company so I threw in $10 to support them. I may get some of the accessories if I find that their prices for them are reasonable (still need to research that). I just got into minis so I still have a long ways to go to build up my stock like most of you guys here have.

I'm enjoying having this forum and you guys as a resource for what's out there and what's good or not.

I'm in for a Bridge of Death. That MBA one looks amazing, Biowizard. Wish it wasn't out of production. :P I also like the bar stairs and balcony on this one.

Are Itar's pieces and these made out of the same stuff? I'm in for a few dungeon accessories with Itar as well. I'm new to the whole terrain thing; how should I store these "die stone" pieces? Is loose in a box ok, or do I need to have them individually laid out on foam or something?

They're now talking about casting several pieces in clear or colored resin (crystal deposits, etc.). If you haven't taken a look yet for stuff to accessorize your Dwarven Forge stuff, I highly recommend a look...

You can now even just pick and choose individual pieces.

I've bought into 4 accessories myself. As some here may know I've just gotten into minis so I have a lot of accessorizing to do (boy, my wife would laugh at that!)

They really have done a nice job of taking the ordinary Hirst stuff and they're offering some very cool customizations, if you're willing to pledge the money for it.

I think the "choose" your own options are neat and worth the price now.
