Vertical Terrain Construction Elements KS 10 Months ago
Just incase anyone else is interested, I like some of the vertical elements provided in the Infinite Crypt kickstarter below. I want to combine them with my DF set-ups. They are only running for a few more days if you want to check them out.

What material are these things made of?

I have looked at the various sites and no where can I see the material.

It's all laser-cut from flat sheets, so it almost has to be wood, very dense cardboard, some kind of pressed particulate.

I got a reply and it is made out of MDF which is a compressed wood particle board.

Plus non-toxic glue is used.

The use of multiple layers makes each element feel "solid".

It would have helped if they put this information in their KS information because a lot of people would have assumed that it was cardboard or cheap wood/plastic and walked away.

Seriously people need to look at how DF managed their KS and take notes. With other KS you always seem to run into confusing stretch goals or rewards, difficulty in figuring out what you are actually getting, or they employ incompetent fulfilment services.

The is looks great but I'm having probs understanding what I'd be getting when they say xx-sets of 10 infinite elements. I'd like to pull the trigger but without knowing what I'd be getting, I won't. I hope they clarify before it ends. Also, is it painted brown or something else?

Each set contains 10 pieces. So if you buy 5 sets you get 50 pieces (unless we unlocj the next stretch goal which would bump it up to 60. The sets come unpainted unless you ask specifically for a painted set option by contacting the owner.. What comes in each set is listed further down the page with pictures of most of the pieces. He is adding pictures everyday to his website, twitter, and facebook.

IC consists of pieces that they refer to as "elements". A "set" is a bundle of 10 elements. There are / will be a finite list of sets -- you won't choose any 10 elements to go into each set -- but the sets are currently in flux, as they design additional elements and define new sets. Their plan is to delay your individual commitment to specific selections until the last minute, sometime after the KS. You can also order individual elements as add-ons. A few elements consist of multiple pieces (columns and pillars tend to come in twos, and barrels come in threes, etc.) All elements will come unpainted.

On their main page, you can see a gallery of photos of individual elements, and you can also see a bunch of sets that have been defined so far. In fact, the sets (labeled A-O as of right now) are described and depicted on the page _above_ the list of elements.

The dude is clearly enthusiastic. He does seem a little disorganized, but I believe that is because he is designing and defining stuff in the middle of his KS project. Also, he has a hard time putting himself in the shoes of potential backers. It is possible to ascertain that the elements are made of MDF, but that info is surprisingly difficult to find. He posts comments -- as if all backers always read all comments -- instead of sending updates. Obviously he is more of an artisan than a polished presenter of information. But his stuff looks like it could really fill a great niche. On a single level, I'd definitely go with DF, but to build up-up-up, I think IC might really be onto to something. Just look at those photos of staircases and causeways...

Sorry to say but I'm Still confused. What I think is now clear is if I back 10 sets I'll get 50 elements...but how many elements does it take to build a staircase or, any of the other great "pieces"?

Each set consists of 10 elements. So if you back 10 sets, you'll get 100 elements, not 50.

What does "staircase" mean to you? I would say that a staircase is a single element. But if you are looking at one of those pictures, with level upon level going up-up-up, then you'll need multiple elements -- multiple staircases, multiple plain blocks, etc. For example, the stairway up to the thrones (in the photo right above the stretch goals) consists of:
4 ceremonial stairways
6 plain blocks
as well as:
a couple of archways (in the foreground)
six pillars
a wide archway
a couple of thrones

That's what I can see in (and infer from) the photo. Note that I am not affiliated with the KS in any way, other than as a backer of course.

Willmont...thanks, I see where I was misreading which caused my confusion. I guess seeing how the laser cut pieces will arrive specifically for the set(s) one gets, will make it easier when gluing them together. Too bad them don't come preassembled.

Are the pictures showing unpainted or painted "elements"?
