Check out Mierce's next kickstarter: www.kickstarter.com/projects/mierceminiatures/darklands-first-edition?mobile=0

This was posted by Zedmeister in the comments section of the KS.

So what's this kickstarter all about?
It's about supporting the expansion of the Darklands game. The main aim is the get the first edition of the rulebook done alongside an expansion of the miniatures for the game

What is Darklands?
That's the most compelling part. Darklands creates a world based in North West Europe in the year AD650 - the Dark Ages. It takes all the creatures, myths and legends of that time and puts forth a game and background that says "What if these were real? What if the Norse really did have Trolls as allies? What if the Fomorians were real? One of the best things is the historical context of the game - you can search online for most of the strange names and places and find a corresponding myth or legend. The legends of Ys, Balor the Evil Eye, etc.

The models!

So, the rules?
- A basic version has already been funded as part of the original kickstarter. Have a look here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/mierceminiatures/darklands-a-world-of-war/posts/584781
- Also, check the Gameplay video produced for KS1: vimeo.com/59008628

To summarise some rule mechanics:
- Individual alternate unit activation, instead of a UGOIGO system
- All warriors, when they are wounded, become weaker
- Will feature weather and time of day
- Different battlefields depending on the lands you raiding - Ice and Snow for the Fomoraic for example
- Army organisation is based around the General and Commanders (who have retinues). Each Commander is given orders before the clash and these are acted upon by the units. These orders can be changed during the battle (via messengers, standards, horns, drums, siren song, and so on) and retinues have some autonomy
- Magic features, but using it comes at a price to the caster - in lifeforce!
- Scale of the models is: 6ft human is 30mm to the eye
- Regarding allies (and this is the simple version): Angelcynn -- Brythoniaid. Brythoniaid -- Albainn. Ysians -- Vras. Norse -- Northumbres. Fomoraic have no allies. Each bloodline (Gorgon - Snakes, Krokod - Crocodiles, Líska - Basilisks and Ýdron - Hydras) in the Khthones are allied to the other. Byzantii - Infernii

Kickstarter hints:
- Check this thread for a view of possible future releases (most may not feature during this KS): www.mierce-miniatures.com/forum/viewtopic.php
- Larger hosts will be unlocked as the pledge level increases
- Also, the following infantry are rumoured to appear:
Angelcynn: Gesíth
Albainn: Gaimorlom (veteran spearmen)
Brythoniaid: Teulu – hearthguard
Byzantii: Legionaries
Fomoraic: Gabrax
Khthones: Gorgórar
Norse: Holumenn (ship's crew)
- Champion: www.mierce-miniatures.com/downloads/norse_champion.jpg
- Bannerman: www.mierce-miniatures.com/downloads/holumenn_standard.jpg
Ysians: Scout-Drunes

For those of you unsure about Mierce as a company please check out this post from a KS1 backer.

lolcraven.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/why-mierce-miniatures-are-kings-of.html

I was added to their KS late and have been extremely impressed with the quality of both the miniatures and customer service. For example, I lost a tiny horn that was glued on a mini and they mailed me about 10 replacements for free. They go above and beyond for customers! Please check out their KS here:

So we are in the last few days of the Kickstarter for Darklands:First Edition. The total is up to almost 100k GBP and their are some nice options for new players to get into the game. If you are curious about what their miniatures look like, please check out Sorn's posts about Mierce Miniatures here:

www.dwarvenforge.com/forum?func=view&catid=3&id=53079

I highly highly recommend both the miniatures and the company. They are extremely responsive to feedback and questions.

Thanks for reading this!

I really like what little I've seen of their miniatures so far, and normally I would probably be all over something like this, but their Kickstarter page is so messy and confusing that every time I sit down to read about the project is comes across as a jumbled mess of incomplete art and too-small pictures of minis.

DungeonBuilder,

I have been following it since the first day so it seems pretty good to me but i can understand being overwhelmed with everything. Do you have any questions? Any suggestions on how to make it easier for a newcomer to figure it out? I am more than happy to answer any questions (though i am no expert by any means). I would love to get more people involved in the game because it is pretty fun and the miniatures are the best I have ever seen. They also just finished uploading a gameplay video on the main page.

I can't wait to use my mierce miniatures with my new DF tiles.

I've been looking at that one a lot, wished I hadn't missed the original KSer for them. However like DungeonBuilder I'm finding their presentation extremely poor on the home page. I know their minis are top notch. But their illustrations/pictures leave much to be desired.

Plus as I'm primarily interested in the minis, not the rule set, its a bit sad that most of the prime pledge levels are all about the rules (makes sense , that's what this KS is for)

Its also a bit tough since they're resin/pewter minis and everyone is getting used to plastic type prices. Plus I think all their minis are overscale at 30mm rather than 25 or 28mm.

I might still pledge for a few norse or khthones

Check out their latest update, I feel like it helps explain the game and also includes a pledge calculator which would help with the confusion aspect. www.kickstarter.com/projects/mierceminiatures/darklands-first-edition/posts/628315?mobile=0

Also I would love to answer any questions you have! I have received several packages from the first kickstarter on time to what they proposed (which hardly ever happens) and have been extremely impressed with their attentiveness to their customers.

Thanks for reading!

I took the plunge. Still wondering if I'll stay in, add more, or remove some funds.... I love their sculpts, probably would never play the game.

In mainly for the norse and khthones since they'll be great adversaries. Might try to use the khthones for Serpent's Skull adventure path in pathfinder (even though they'll be way over scale (since serpentfolk are medium)) but they just look too cool.

Currently getting Sweet Spot (khthones selections) + Encounter Host (norse) + a few extra leaders/add-ons. If the extra khthones infantry gets unlocked and they get an encounter host as was alluded I'll ahve to reshuffle everything.

Trust me on this. If you love high quality mini's you will absolutely not regret it. I first ordered 1 mini, now I own several armies from each faction! They are top notch mini's that you won't find anywhere else.
