Realmsound 2.0 is back on Kickstarter!
I know Stefan was interested. A few early bird levels left!
If you are interested in a sound mixer, music, ambient, voice overs & SFX...
Enjoy!

I'm not as dependant on music and voice-overs so I opted for the early bird platinum backer level. Hopefully I made the right decision?

I'm again again. This time at adamantium.

I think the organizers could learn a lot from DF and other successful KSers. Aside from the lowered goal for funding I'm not sure if they took much advantage of the relaunch. The home page is still a bit messy and confusing. Their pledge levels are a bit confusing and already spawning some backer angst.

I was very psyched about their first campaign, this relaunch is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Their original goal seemed reasonable for the work they were promising. This goal feels low and I'm not sure they'll have enough funds.

I agree with @nielsene. I was in the first Kickstarter and with the middle of the night release, the previous backer rewards were gone before I even got up that morning. For me, it wasn't really the price that I missed out on that bothered me, it was more the promise to "take care" of the previous backers, and then to have only the first 25 or so backers that happened to be up in the middle of the night (or be somewhere in the world where it was daytime) that got in on the reward and it really had nothing to do with if you were a previous backer or not.

I also agree with the confusion of the Kickstarter. The "Values" seems grossly overinflated. I.e. 18 sound effects are worth almost $1500? Thats almost $100 per 2-4 minute track. They must have a four to five thousand dollar value on their sound player as well. Just seems way out of whack. If I was spending over $7800 for sound effects for my home RPG game, I would pray to Mitra I would be getting more than several dozen tracks.

That said, I do think the pledge levels are reasonable for what you get for the most part, but even after re-reading the description several times, I still don't have a clue if I'm going to be eligible for more than the first stretch goal with my platinum pack level. And, if you have to pledge Diamond level or higher to get the stretch goals, I will probably drop my pledge altogether even though what I've heard of the sounds effects sound really good.

Now you got me arguing the other side.

They don't control when the project goes live. They submit it to KS for approval and once its approved, its live. So the middle of the night launch isn't on them. What is on them is not having an appropriate number of early bird slots and not thinking through how their early bird slots interact with the continually changing pledge levels. This was a relaunch and they had all the opportunity to learn from their past experience and experienced backers, instead I feel like they actually took a step backwards in their organization.

Concerning their values -- its a problem of cost to produce 1 and then the practically free duplication cost. I honestly don't know how they'll be able to produce everything they're on the hook for with the budget their listing. I know they've sunk some of their own funds in, etc. The soundboard development could easily consume their entire KS budget, unless the devs are working for free/peanuts. I would expect a budget more like 20-40k for their soundboard development. Of course I don't think anyone would want to pay more than ~50 for the soundboard. -- So that means 600 backers are needed just to cover that cost.

For all the sound files --I'm not surprised at a $500/track production cost, actually that sounds budget. But again normally you'd wouldn't quote that as the "value".. That's the production cost, you'd probably want to get the unit cost to consumers down to $5-10/track.

I feel like they are well-meaning enthusiasts who have sunk a lot of their own money into enhancing their games. However I don't think they did their research in how KS operates, or into Business 101. I have a few questions out to them in PMs about some of these issues.

At least they've reduce the 'all stretch goals' to $100 (from $125) but the amount of stretch goals is going to be the question of how much each track costs the backer. I'm in at the $50 early bird plat. so I will only get the #1 stretch goal at this point.

When I did some research into the group during the first Kickstarter, I found out that one of the members of the Orance County Gaming Group (the people behind the Kickstarter) is an audio professional - I think that's why they have the ability to do the multi-track recordings. There's also probably a lot of work that's already gone into the soundboard, as it that would be part of the "normal-life" toolkit.

Here's the link to the group from the Kickstarter: ocgaminggroup.com/

and under the bio's of the founding members, Alex Jarzebinski ( ocgaminggroup.com/alex-jarzebinski-2/), mention of him being a Co-Founder of Audio catch, which does custom audio.

That makes it much more likely that they will indeed be able to meet their goals.

I have no doubt they can reach their goals should the total get the project past the individual stretch goals they announce. They've already produced several audio FX and ambients (which you can hear on their project) and they are quite good! Current sounds
I think the issue is more of the backer-momentum they lost with their late additions of backer levels with a tiered system to reach future stretch goals and the ensuing disapproval of the methods.
There is little incentive to upgrade to 'add stretch goals' if the stretch goals aren't met that you'd receive, right?
Personally, I think they are trying really hard to produce a great tool and sound content to take RPG to a higher level and I applaud their efforts.
Yes, I think it could have been organized better and I think they realize that as well. I think 'chopping' the $125 level (when all backers desert it) for the $100 adamantine level (you get everything) was a good move on their part BUT unfortunately, without the stretch goals met it only entices dowgrading from $125 at this point. Once the $$$ start flying and they start hitting stretch goals #2, 3, etc. this will change. I'm in for Soundboard, core pack and stretch #1. I will have to wait and see what opens up as I'm not going to pledge $50 more to get what I'm already getting (at this point). I'm still trying to justify almost $800 of dwarvenite, afterall? ;-)

I think they're improving and their communication is improving.

I've started a conversation with them about Alarin's comment here -- seeing if the can help disentangle "production costs" from "value". I think that will help with the "professionalism" of the campaign. I'm hoping to have some free time tonight to try to write up an alternate version of the project page that I think make things more clear and see if they like it.

Basically we're seeing a group of KS neophytes who didn't really do their homework on KSer norms, but who I think are serious. I want to help them out. (I actually wish they had a few higher (creative or something) tiers, since I want to throw a bit more at them, but want bang for my buck). I was close to going for their upper tier on their last campaign, but it wasn't quite worth it to me.
