Lizardmen! 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I grabbed a batch of lizardmen from GW to paint up, since I realized that the last time I tried my hand at painting them I was still learning what I was doing and my current saurus warriors were, well, kinda awful.

I really like the design of these guys -- all spikey and scaley, and very dangerous and nasty, and all that Aztec imagery. I like the idea of doing lizardmen as jungle-oriented rather than swamp-oriented, which is what I was used to from old school AD&D. And if you just feel like having fun painting, it's fun to think about crazy color combinations -- I did some in blue with red highlights, some in light aquamarine with pink highlights, some in light blue with yellow highlights - it's a blast.

I'll post pics as soon as I can. I really dig these guys. And, funny story, while I was painting the bases on them one of them fell over and when I grabbed it with my thumb, it stabbed me. It actually drew blood. So these are very dangerous minis, they are the first actually to injure me. And they're plastic! Luckily, the mini was unharmed. I just hope that, now that they've tasted blood, I'm safe where I sleep.

I always thought of lizardmen as being a fairly diverse species, and based their appearance and abilities on various different reptile species according to geography and climate. My lizardmen who live along the desert river are crocodilian brutes, while my forest lizardmen are based on anoles (complete with personal camouflage).

This is one one the original D&D creatures I think should have been put on a table (along with dragons and hags) to allow DMs more flexibility and easier modification.
