More Caverns 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Hello all some of you may have seen the cavern floor piece i posted about a couple weeks ago well here is one of my walls. Now again these arent going to be sold or anything just for my own personal use but here it is. And here it is next to my only other DF cavern piece lol (got one off of ebay) and the other floor piece I made. Some of the stalagmites got a little flattened while i was trying to texture it but other than that came out how i wanted let me know what you all think hope you like. I will probably wait till I am done with the rest of the pieces to post again. Sorry for the drawn out post enjoy lol.

Great job. I like the texture you put into it. I'd be interested to see it again after it's painted. Please post more when it's been painted.

Also, I forget if you said before, but what material did you use to sculpt these pieces?

Thanks

Nice sculpt! I wonder if the upcoming Cavern Game Tiles Set will be based on a 2*2 system like yours given the constraints and costs of PVC molding...

Ty and that is sorta why i made these 2x2 to at least go with the game tiles i have on the way and if the caverns are 2x2 thats an even bigger bonus i cant wait to get the rest of the pieces done and up on e here

The Design of the new Caverns is still up in the air....we may do 2"x 2" footprint if it turns out it is best or we may do 4"x 4" or both.....

Now is the time for suggestions as sculpting has not started yet!

I am sure there are plenty of great idea's out there....

2x2 seems like a good idea for Dwarvenite.

You said Sewers would be 2x2 and hinted that it might be dwarvenite.

If all 3 dwarvenite lines are 2x2 then it will be much easier to mix them.

I say do away with the transition pieces. I despised them. In every set there were like 2 of them including the whole icicle cavern piece. But I hated that piece cause of the transition section which looked out of place for what I wanted to build. So please consider no transition (part cavern/part dungeon) pieces. It would not be needed if you went 2x2 anyway.

I say keep making transition pieces. I love them. They are exactly what I need for what I want to build. So please consider them in whatever footprint you decide on.

But also consider packaging them as individual pieces, like the HellScape transitions, or part of a specialty pieces set, or even a small set devoted exclusively to transition pieces.

That said, I am less concerned about the footprint (2x2 vs 4x4) than the sculpt itself. I am very hopeful that it won't be a clone of the resin caverns, but a new sculpt that will appeal to new and established collectors alike.

Frog, I think that transition pieces are not done only to connect Sets of different dimensions but also to connect Sets of different colors and textures. A lot of them, like the lava from the Hellscape Set overflowing on top of cavern floors, are real cool. I think DF's latest approach (used for Hellscape II) is the best! Leave transition pieces outside from the main Sets but make them available as single pieces for people interested in them. As to the 2*2 vs 4*4 system for cavern Game Tiles, I don't think one option over the other would make it any less compatible to the 2*2 Game Tiles. I'm just surprised that Stefan said 4*4 pieces are an option for PVC/Dwarvenite molds!
