I think sandstone walls similar to Antelope Canyon (Google it if you don't recognize it) with a sandy floor would be very striking.

Or crystalline caverns, with a mix of rocks similar to those at Giant's Causeway and transparent colored crystals (which might even support lighting effects).

Or walls made of jagged striated rock, vertical or horizontal or multiple angles.

Or something that none of us have thought of that Stefan feels inspired to do.

But I hope he doesn't reproduce -- and potentially replace -- existing MasterMaze lines with GameTiles.

ive seen the antelope canyon before and it would be awesome i might try to mess around with making something like that. Putting the texture on it is going to be interesting

I think a skillful paint job might be enough, but my understanding is that it is better to apply that kind of texture mixed into the paint than attempting it as part of the sculpt.

I think 2x2 over 4x4 for consistency and keeping it more modular.

Making transition pieces optional and sold outside a main set or in an expansion makes sense.

I hate them because you buy a set like Ice Caverns and you end up with friggan 6 of those worthless pieces when you buy 3 sets. Since they are 4x4 that is a massive amount of footprint I don't want to use.

the ice caverns are really nifty and i like jacks idea about the sandstone caverns but i also really like the idea of the crystal caverns (i watched a 2 hour show about some of the largest crystal caves just recently) so i might try to make some like that and see how it all comes out although if im going to make a mold of the piece then cast it i wonder how i would go about only making the crystal sections of the piece clear and the rest the normal plastic resin

The Design of the new Caverns is still up in the air....we may do 2"x 2" footprint if it turns out it is best or we may do 4"x 4" or both.....

Now is the time for suggestions as sculpting has not started yet!

I am sure there are plenty of great idea's out there....

Many of the maps I have drawn over the years have mixed completed sections of dungeon with caverns, some with rooms half done so having the new caverns be 2"x2" would be better for me.

But perhaps some of the higher stretch goals could be super special 4"x4" pieces.

After many many years of play use, I prefer the caverns 4x4 base than the 2x2 of dungeons. 2x2 takes too long to set up and put away. Even at 4x4 Caverns have more variety and look more natural than anything I've made with 2x2 dungeons.

4x4 seem to me to be best. I love the style of the current caverns, and I doubt they could look so nicely organic and flowing in 2x2 pieces.

That being said, a handful of 2x2's would be nice for transitional areas, and if there is a major technical challenge with 4x4 Dwarvenite caverns, then 2x2 is better than 0x0.

I vote for 4x4 cavern pieces. Looks more organic in a set up and would mesh perfectly with the existing cavern sets. I'd hate to see those with existing 4x4 cavern sets get thrown under the bus when it comes to matching future sets. A few select 2x2s could work for certain situations.

As to the OP, those sculpts do look nice. As others have said, please post more pics when painted.

I greatly prefer 4x4 as well (and don't need transitional pieces in a main set).

I think the surprising popularity of the unpainted kickstarter sets, could (if a cavern kickstarter were eventually done) easily allow for homemade ice or lava caverns.
