So -- this is the GW piece I posted about in another thread.

Whenever GW produces something that's a good deal, I am always happy. This is a phenomenal deal -- for $54, you get a carriage, two pieces of astronomical equipment (a model of the solar system and a giant telescope), a bunch of telescopes, and three figures. Plus, the figures themselves are ones I'd really want -- a (somewhat basic) wizard, and two scribes. There are interchangeable parts for how you assemble these guys, and I love the options I chose -- pile of scrolls under the arm, book under the arm, holding a candle. Awesome.

I still have a few tweaks I need to make (though these extreme close-ups tend to exaggerate very small imperfections almost impossible to detect normally). But overall I'm very happy.

The piece itself only comes with one stand, so if you make both the telescope (luminark) and planetarium (hurricanum), you can only use the stand for one of them. I glued my telescope to the top of the carriage without a stand.

I'll take better pics of these in a proper DF planetarium at some point. These are actually pretty small, each piece is probably just under 4 inches long. They all work together well, it's a really great astronomy set.

....and the carriage. I did it in a vaguely "19th century Austria-Hungary" kinda scheme, aka very Disney. ;) Ivory and gold, baby.

Hahaha, I know the feeling. Based on past experience, I'd say we can expect to see a much better painted version of this stuff from Kronos within a month! ;)

..... WOW .....

I love how that turned out. The figures really add to the feel as well.

Well done, very well done.

I particularly like the Orrery. Very nice idea you had of having that as a free standing piece. It looks brilliant!
Thanks for sharing these pictures. Great inspiration.

Thanks, guys. It's a great set. I forgot to mention, btw -- the little orrery/planetarium actually moves, provided you don't glue it. The inner globe spins on its axis, the twin-tailed comet at the top spins as well, and the large ring encircling the thing can tilt. Granted, that last action will rub the paint off the orbs that hold it in place (which are dark greyish blue on mine), but it works. At the very least you get options about how you position it before gluing it in place. But it's very clever.

I'm definitely going to be using the scribes with my library set. I have a small collection of non-combatants, some I use with the tavern settings (serving wenches, barkeep, harlots, drunks, singing bards, dancing girls, etc., oh and small children of course, because doesn't that sound like good company for kids?) and some of which I use for library settings (a bunch of wizards holding books, some Reaper, some Rackham, some GW). I'm always happy to have new bookworms, and these two are some of the best. I particularly like the guy with the scrolls and candle. He'll work well in a library, or also going into the catacombs. I can picture a small catacomb with some kind of archive at the back and this poor guy has to walk through it now and again to retrieve ancient scrolls, holding his candle and trying not to think about the corpses lining the walls....

Hopefully I'll have time this weekend for a proper Astromancer Library layout for these new pieces.
