Re:Reaper Bones Vampire Level
1 Year, 3 Months ago
I got my Bones Vampire package for a couple of days, I painted the first and converted a few others. I'm very happy about all the big miniatures. They are very good casts in this new material and I like how light they are. The possibilities of this new material are used well with bigger miniatures and gives opportunities for minis like Kaladrax that would not be possible this way in metal. There are some things Reaper needs to improve, for example the sword of one of the giants is destined to bend over time because the material is not 100% capable of supporting the weight of the blade the way it is cast. These are things that can be prevented for example by a sculpting a different sword position. But aside from that I'm very satisfied with all the bigger minis.
For smaller or normal sized (humanoid sized) miniatures I must say I'm with Dwarf:
...am not satisfied with the miniature material quality...
... I still think it was a great deal, I simply decided for myself that it'd prefer to pay a little more and get plastic or metal miniatures....
That sums it up pretty perfectly for me. I love the metal miniatures from Reaper, for a long time 95% of my collection was solely from Reaper. And of course I will continue to buy their metal miniatures without thinking twice. And I will buy the bigger miniatures from the Bones line.
Many of the normal sized miniatures are OK, but some are...well...not OK (at least five have no noses, some others have washed-out details in comparison to their metal counterpart etc.). .
One commenter on my blog gave me a link for an image regarding the missing noses problem with some of the bones. It's a cheesy joke but illustrated the problem of some of the new Bones miniatures perfectly:
I still like the whole Bones line because it allows new gamers to get into the miniature hobby for a very acceptable price and I'm certain I will find a purpose for all the miniatures from the vampire package. And maybe the quality will get better once Reaper has analyzed the problems with some sculpts and found a better way to use the material for smaller miniatures. For bigger ones however this is pretty good I'm more than happy about Kaladrax&Co. :)
