Hahahaha! I love the last parenthetical there. I have two kids, my son is 5 and my daughter just turned 3 -- and yes, this impacted the time I have to paint and the nature of the task itself. No more carelessly leaving the paint station out when I'm done for the day -- everything must be put away (to my wife's joy and my frustration -- takes forever to take things out and put them away again each time! I already have very little time for this!)

On the plus side, as the kids get older seeing their reaction to this stuff is priceless. I made such an impression on the kids about how careful they have to be with "Daddy's maze stuff" that when their friends come over they get solemn warnings: "This is fragile! You could break it!" The other day I came home and found that my son had left a note on it, clarifying that it could only be used by him, his sister, and me.

She already has two minis of her own. I was converting some old Dreamblade minis for use with D&D style minis. I had found a box of them that I was given at a show a while back and there were about 10 Jack of Blades in there. She promptly held one up and asked, "Mine Daddy?" I said sure. She played with it until she went to bed. She decided she needed a second to play with the first. She has also used them to terrorize her sesame street characters.

It is cool to see their eyes light up with wonder at something neat and new. I can't wait for her to be able to make stuff with me, whether its gaming related or just for a dollhouse for her.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

This thread has inspired me to try to find a way to get a very small custom map globe, so I can get one with the campaign world's map on it and use it as dungeon dressing. If push come to shove, I can look into getting a little globe and replacing the sphere with styrofoam I seal and then hand draw and paint up the maps myself...

Check your local craft store for large beads or small wooden spheres. They are already smooth and spherical, less susceptible to damage, and might come with a hole through the center that you can use to mount them on a narrow wire post.

Mega Miniatures just sold their "Globe, Telescope, and Star Gauge" molds to Midlam Miniatures (www.midlamminiatures.co.uk), but I don't think they are producing them yet. That's a very nice globe, a good telescope on a stand, and an okay astronomical or navigation gadget. Might also be on eBay or noble Knight.

Thanks for the link and the suggestions Jack. The idea of using pre-drilled wooden or plastic beads of various sizes would afford me the option of doing entire fantasy solar systems should the urge strike. I just really enjoy cool set pieces and neat little special effects for minis.
