Glad you found a resource that will work for you.

As a side note you might want to look at this wiki Page:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysoberyl

"Alexandrite's typically of 5 carrot or greater come from the Urals or Brazil.... Also found in India, Madagascar and Sri Lanka."

Why I know this is because we own one of rather nice size from Brazil.

You didn't say anywhere your games were of Medieval European placement only so I assumed the lists for various Gems/Jewels not specific to a Euro centric History where magic and fantasy would be excluded in reality but included in just fable....There we go back to rule Nazi's.

I must say that 'Kaiser's Bazaar: Jeweler Exchange' looks very nice after reading about it and is added to the BUY list.

Try not to take everything so serious..... Its more fun.

Try not to call people rules lawyers or rules nazis... it's more polite.

Only problem is (now that I go back and read more closely) is that there is no random generation to it: it is just information and rules for value. However, maybe you can use the info to plug into what you were creating?

Would love to someday peak at your end product, however long down the road it might be.

Hopefully I'll get some time next weekend to play with it.

I'm in class all week (and stopping in at work to keep up with e-mail after), and then I've got a project at work to finish, so June is going to suck out loud. But July is shaping up to be pretty good, and working on a gemstone reference might round it out nicely.

Tangentially related question: Does anyone have any gemstones they've made up for fantasy settings that they'd like to share? I have glow stones, natural BB-sized spheres that put out abou a tenth of a candle's light, but enough to provide minimal light in caverns in sufficient numbers; beetlene (terrible name!) found growing on the back of subterranean insects; and a unique stone which glows about half as bright as daylight, kept in a major city's lighthouse (created for a list of impossible-to-steal items in a defunct campaign).

Personally I like goldstone. Have I used it in a campaign? No, but now I'm thinking about it. I could easily see it as a replacement for a low grade gemstone or lodestone. Price follows demand and I could easily see goldstone as being a 'poor man's gem' and have value for bartering, especially in small villages for food/lodging/etc.

Here's my (lousy) first gold pile:

TexasStu,

You might have a blast (or not...) at seeing my version of custom-made treasure pile.
