I will be there all four days. I am actually getting there the Tuesday before and leaving the Monday after.

My family is coming with me, but they dont do GenCon. My wife takes the kids to the Children's museum (its awesome!), zoo, etc. This year I think I will bring them all in on Sunday though. I signed up for Princess Islansardi's Tea Party. Its some kind of RPG where fairies are supposed to have tea with the princess, but she has been kidnapped, and the group has to rescue her. Its meant to be played in parent/child groups. My daughter's are gonna freak out, especially the oldest. Leah, my 7 year old, constantly bugs me to teach her D and D and play Dragon Dice, etc. She is amazed at my Dwarven Forge (so am I!). For this game on Sunday, they wouldn't let me be the parent in the game for both of my daughters (Leah is 7, Alexis is 6)... an adult has to play with each child (it has to do with how they have the game planned). Not sure what I am gonna do yet, if my wife plays with one of my daughters, it means we have to have my 4 year old son stay entertained for 2 hours while the rest of us play. :( That won't be easy!

shoe, I feel your pain. Fortunately my lil beastie will be at daycare the first two days and mommy will be with her over the weekend. I have a gate at the top of the stairs that is anchored with screws into a stud in the stair wall... she has grabbed it and yanked at it back and forth and nearly managed to get it loose. I had to use putty and reseat the screws! Keeping her entertained in a public setting is definitely a challenge that has to be met.

If your family has not been to Conner Prairie, you might look into that. It is just north and east of Indy a wee bit in Fishers, Indiana. It is a living history museum kind of like Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.

Depending on how you'll be traveling there is a solution my extended family has used in the past... They would bring along an older cousin (i.e. too young to vacation alone, but old enough to babysit) to help with a little one. It can be cost effective if traveling by road. They get to come along on vacation and usually their folks send along money for at least part of their expenses. It does depend on vehicle size, doesn't work so well for planes unless you have some money to burn, and can be an ok solution if traveling by train. Just thought I would share the idea.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

Thanks for the suggestions. My wife enjoys planning their time together... I will tell her about Conner Prairie.

Unfortunately there wont be anyone else to go along with us. Its alright though. We'll have fun no matter which direction I go with that game.
