I have thought about doing some wall of type sculpts but have to many things going on at this time....the thing to do is start putting together ideas.

LOL!
No problem. Actually I'm kind of embarrassed. I was shaking so badly.
That's why I said I'll probably redo it. But I'll use the Pentax HD camera instead of the iPhone 4S.
The fire sculpt is raised on it's battery base (I imagine is same thickness as Dwarvenite floor thickness?)
And it is approx. 2"x2" at the base, so although the bottome ring will extend over anothe floor tile (won't work well up against a wall?) it should go very very well with DF tiles! :-)

She is the Sorceress from Reaper's Learn To Paint kit (#2 I think?) and one of the very first ones I painted in the last 30+ years.
I forget her name.. Let me look.. Here she is:

And here's my painted version (which I tried to follow their directions (with varying results?)

Tex, I would like to ask you about those Reaper kits...

I just got into doing minis, previously I had only used them unpainted and all my painting had been done on airplanes and military vehicle models with Testors enamel, maybe one or two Gundams snuck in, and that was years ago. So I have now aquired the Vellejo Orcs and Goblins paint set, a few random Vellejo paints to add some more color options, and a white primer.

I have been considering picking up a few of the Reaper learn to paint kits, so if you can answer these few quick questions, great! If not, I will dig for more info.

Do you think the paints in the kit will mix fine with Vallejo?
Are they pretty helpful for a noob like myself?

I have gotten hold of over 80 minis recently and most will need painting, so any references or how-tos you would especially recommend would be awesome! We really need a PM function so I can avoid randomly derailing threads, lol.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

Hey LordDust,

Just you give you my opinion....

I mix both types of Reaper and Vallejo paints all the time....

My Fire Pits base color is a mix of Vallejo Model Color German Grey, Camo Ocher and Reaper Olive Drab.... to thin the mix as needed I use 'Mop and Glow' floor wax.
It is not uncommon for me to use Americana Craft paint mixed with Vallejo, Reaper and other acrylics.

Hope it helps,
John

Lord Dust, at the risk of thread derailment I'll answer your questions when I get home.
In short, buy the cloth & skin one, you won't be disappointed!
I'd recommend all of them eventually, although I skipped the first one myself but I probably will get it anyway.
The techniques are well presented with staged color pictures. I recommend the LtP kits to anyone looking to get into painting minis.

Re:A Warm Fire Pit 1 Year, 5 Months ago
Thank you both for the input!

John, I have been hesitant about what paints to get other than what I had seen on the shelf at the hobby shop, so thank you for suggesting "Americana Craft". Sometimes I can find Vallejo locally for a reasonable price, other times I have to wait for a sale. GWS paints are rather pricey in these parts. Reaper I can only find online so far, but I can get it with free shipping, so it isn't too bad. On another topic, I do really like seeing your projects, they are inspiring. Hopefully I can talk to you about purchasing some later.

Tex, I look forward to the rest of your input when you have the chance!
