As long as the bases are 1" (25mm) and multiples thereof -- to fit the 1" grid pattern of DF floors -- any miniature will work with DF.

Gotcha. In this case, I can't find reliable information on if they are 1 inch. Also trying to find out if the figures will all look 7 feet tale if I put them by D&D or Pathfinder miis.

That's the real trick, and one we can't really address.

I'd like to see an industry standard where all miniatures are photographed next to a vertical ruler.

Agreed! It seems like instead of the CCG power creep, miniatures have size creep. They claim a scale, but they want their heroes to be just a little bit bigger then the ones that came before. Before you know it the 25mm are really 28mm and every character is 7ft tall by scale.

I couldn't find my bookmarks on the subject, but there are several sites out there where a helpful user has put up a shot of their minis from various lines with a ruler. One of the best ways in my experience is to hit up a local shop and take one mini with you as your point of reference. That way you can judge for yourself how the scales compare and see what you are comfortable with. Often you can find a collector or some singles so you can make comparisons.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

Thanks I'll give that a try. Speaking of the Bones offer above, which would be tempting if I could paint, any recommendations for people who do commissions. Maybe at a couple cost levels.

Painting minis is not THAT hard! If you are unsure try out Reaper's Learn To Paint kits! (#1&2)
I'd recommend a decent magnifying light plus a few brushes 0/0,3/0,5/0&10/0 should get you going.
Just have FUN! There are a lot of sites out there with step by step help.

On another note, I just picked up a new dice bag made of Chainmail from a fellow DF backer!
I know, right? How cool is that!???

You can talk to guys at your local shop, sometimes one of them is willing to teach a bit or will do fairly cheap commissions, plus you can see their work in person. With online painters you usually have to pay shipping one way or both. Biowizard had mentioned these guys in another thread: Fernando Enterprises. I haven't used them, but they seem to have reasonable prices especially for quantities.

I know that this was mentioned previously in the thread (It drew my attention)

Here is a miniature kickstarter for some old school cast metal miniatures based on the Tome Of Horrors. They have some awesome stretch goals already up. (Dragons, FROGHEMOTH!) As well as daily add ons if stretch goals are made. Definitely worth taking a look at.

The Tome of Horrors kickstarter is great for old school stuff, I am in on the $200 pledge.

I should also have an extra vampire set from bones to discuss trades/sales with. Though I'm probably very near the end of their shipment as I had a metric tonne of addons -- just about two of everything.

Definitely more interested in trades for DF than just selling the extras (or DF gift certs)
