Ok... Here is a Topic Specific to this Idea...

I Checked out the Actual site, WWW.FantasyGrounds.Com

It looks pretty interesting... I was Not able to D/L the Demo (8+ Megs, which is a lot for my Clunky Computer, Not to Store, but it would take hours to D/L), which means it is unlikely that I would be GM'ing... But I might be interested in Ordering the PC version on disk... (If it looked like folks were serious about doing this?

So those of you who have purchased the "Full" license, have you Made any Custom Moduals yet? And What about Art for the Game... It talks very Briefly about token Creation, played with that at all yet?

I made a custom module just to try it out. It wasn't too bad -- you make the modules right in the tool. I should find the time and zip it up so folks can check out its cheeziness.

If you have a good drawing program and if it exports JPG or PNG, putting up maps and making custom tokens is a breeze. The DM just puts them in a special directory and all the players magically have them.

I used Dunjinni to make a few maps. Since Dunjinni only exports BMP I had to convert to PNG as an extra step, but that's not too hard.

The included character sheet in the program is a bit slim, but they can be modified with a bit of work. A guy from the Fantasy Grounds forum e-mailed me a modified version of the character sheet, though I haven't checked it out yet. He removed some of the unneeded things and added more useful fields.

I have the full version, as I'm in the middle of a house move I have not had a lot of time to play with it. I expect to be getting at least 2 copies of the lite version so my boys can join in on any game they are welcome in with me from the other computers. I'm up to give it a shot if we can arrange a time that is amenable to those showing an intrest. I should not try GMing myself at the moment tho, as I'm about as rusty as you can get < grin >

From their web site it really looks like an interesting tool. I downloaded the demo but it wouldn't work on my stupid Win98 machine. I'm getting a new machine here soon so hopefully I can try out the demo.

I'm not sure I'd be up for playing (unless the demo really blows me away) but I'd really like to hear what you guys have to say after (or while) you're trying it.

Hmmm... I am kind of old fashioned...

I think the main reason why I dm a rpg is to see all my good friends... at least once each month or so...
So I will not buy it or download it... if I want to play with my friends on the computer I host a Neverwinter Nights campain or play on a persistant world ... something like that...
but its not as funny to eat all the junkfood by yourself...
Junkfood needs company ;-)

RazorCut,

So how User Friendly is the thing over all? And I am also Curious how much of a Resource Hog the Whole thing is? Also you seem to be the only one who has played arounf with Modual Creation, So if we got this Happening would you Volunteer to GM?

Tdaraa,

Good luck with the Move... As to GM'ing and being Rusty... Well at least we could not Get Pissy and Throw Cheese Doodles atcha' for Killing off the PC's... Well, maybe Virtual Cheese Doodles, but they do not Stain Carpets!

CalicoDave,

Well if you Get a Chance to Monkey with the Demo let us Know what you think...

Grumbil,

I Very much "Get" the importance of Gaming face to Face, and the Fact that When we take Junkfood Communion it is meant to be an act of Fellowship... I think the Idea here though, would be an opportunity to exploit the internet in an Effort to get the DF crowd together for gaming... Somthing that would be VERY difficult to do otherwise... (At least until I Win the Lotto and can Afford to "Host" a Forge-con, at which Point I will Happily Fly Everyone out here for a Week, where we can Game in my Would be Castle!...<Chuckle>...)

I haven't had the opportunity yet to play-play it as a DM nor as a player. I've just used it to try out making a module and also logged onto another host to chat, practice rolling the dice (applying modifiers, etc) and to fill out a character sheet. But those things weren't too hard.

Version 1.02 used to take 100% CPU and 128MB of memory. I complained to them stating that I thought 100% CPU was a bit too much, especially for my laptop; when the CPU is at 100% the fan in it never stops. Turns out, in version 1.03 they reduced the 100% CPU to pretty much nothing. Still about 128MB of memory, though (I'm guessing here; the total on my PC was 256MB, most of which was not because of the program).

Volunteer as a GM eh? hmmmm...not sure if I have that kind of time, though I'll think about it. When I bought the program shortly before Christmas, I could not find anybody to play D&D with for the life of me (that's why I bought it so that I could participate in a campaign long-distance)...but I just recently landed a consulting job (on top of my full-time job) and it turns out that 3 of the people at the new company want to play D&D with me and I volunteered to DM. I've been prepping my skills and figuring out what the campaign is going to focus on. Between that and two jobs, I'm not certain I'll be able to find the time to DM anything else.

I'll keep thinking about it, though.

Actually it isn't as bad as I described, and I do have NWN, just haven't had someone walk me thru the baby steps of playing the online version, I have a huge EQ habit that is keeping me placated, and I plan on trying DDO when it becomes available, tho the setting they chose for it leaves me a bit cold. But in the absence of FTF playing, I do miss the level of interaction afforded by a real live DM on the other side of the critters....
