Can the Players "Place" their "Miniatures" on the Map? Or does the GM have to do that based on Discription only?

Just got fantasy grounds full licence yesterday. So far, I've been exploring the software and testing the stuff in the user's guide. I am quite pleased with it. It looks great, summarizes most of the useful game elements. This is an evolved chat in fact, with elaborate dice, mapping, lightning and other options.

MMORPGs (such as Neverwinter Nights and D&D Online) cannot be compared to this product, much like MMORPGs can't be compared to tabletop RPG. I think that Fantasy Grounds is a great way to play tabletop RPG without having all the players in the same town. I'll probably GM some D&D and Arcana Evolved games with this tool. I guess I'll have to post on this forum to let you know? :)

Looks interesting. I gave up on online gaming a couple of years ago due to all the abuses, cheats, kids, etc. What provisions are there for preventing these? Is there a monthly cost or just a one time fee?

Well for cheats the rolls happen on a common server, so unless you hack the program, no fudging rolls, they happen in full view of everyone (except the DM's). One time fee, you buy the program and it's yours...I recommend the full version rather than the player's if there is any chance whatsoever you might DM. Else, if you buy the player version and decide to DM later you wind up paying in full for both products. To the question of kids, no help there....but you do have a real DM, so some things get ignored if they mess up the game. Worst case if a particular player is completely untenable, you can always change the server code for the next game and "forget" to provide it to him....

I belong to an old NWN Guild that is currently running two Fantasy Grounds campaigns with great success. Everyone involved seems to really be enjoying the experience. They can be found at eeg.game-host.org/EEG/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=17 The campaigns themselves are under the headings of Dogzilla's Shackled City Campaign and Devin's The Rivton Trilogy Campaign. Feel free to check them out and ask them any questions about the Fantasy Grounds program they seem to have a good handle on it.
