Shadox was crouched low poised to spring, balanced on the branch as he thought back to how he got here. [Begin Dream Sequence] The caravan had stopped. A crowd had gathered at the front and angry shouts could be heard. Just the sort of commotion that Shadox needed to "find" some purses that folks may have dropped. As he made his way to the front he could see the dilemma that was unfolding. The caravan had come to a deep gorge and the draw bridge was pulled up on the other side. The winch was locked into place on the other side. There was no way to cross. Someone would have to cross some how. Well that was none of his business what they did or how they did it... Or was it? Mages were uttering strange words and casting spells to "lift" someone across. Twice the person got halfway across and dropped to their death as the spell failed. Hmmm... The gorge was not much longer than the tent where Shadox used to perform his human catapult show when he was in the Circus. [End Dream Sequence]

The wind was dying down. This was it. "TRIGGER THE SLING," shouted Shadox. BOING. Shadox jump right as the branch let go of him and flung him through the air.

Sailing through the air and never one to miss a chance to perform he did a slow flip at the height of the jump and came down on the other side on his feet. Whew. That was a long way. It could nave been real bad if he had misjudged the jump. Quickly he moved around the draw bridge and released the lock.

CLICK. CLICK. CLICK. CLICK.

The gears let go and the bridge lowered.

Why had he done this? Why risk his own life? Shadox did not know the answer to that question only that it was right and that he and this caravan had to get where they were going.

The Gathering Well
Word spread among the clan that Galdor would be travelling to Valoria. The fortnight was almost past. It is sad that so few... so few have come to see him off.

As is tradition, Aridhoalean, the eldest of our clan, presided over the ceremony. Estiatheryn, master armorer and lifelong friend to Galdor's uncle, presented him with the mail of his father's youth. I fine set of mail even if a little tarnished by time. Kethatria, his betrothed, presented him with footwear, fashioned by her, in the hopes that they might guard his path and return him back to her in the fullness of time. Tratia presented him with the traditional parcel of traveling nourishment; of course I've already trained him will all the talent he'll need to keep his stomach from grumbling. And Mitorevalsa, High Mistress of our Great Protector, presented him with our traditional traveling cloak. New, by the looks of it, but absent are the golden threads that are indicative of the many loving hands normally lent to such a craft. <sigh> Lamah & Kerque were there as well to present their well wishes, but no more... I had hoped the stigma of my presence would have faded, but now I see that it may never truly disappear.

But wait! Could it be? Just entering from the tree line. He wears the Cloak of the Dragon so it must be! NaBael Auvreathem! None has seen him for over 300 years! Now you make me wonder... who is this Galdor that the ancient slayer of dragons would emerge from seclusion to honor his journey? And to bring the most noble of gifts as well; the traditional quiver of arrows! Dragon slayers, every one of them I'll bet. Who is this student you have given me the honor to teach? With the appearance of such nobility, I would of course hold off my presentation of Ari'avel as it can wait. No need to even appear to upstage our special guest.

To see the look on Aridhoalean's face... You can tell that they must have known each other from time long ago. Although I am not one to subscribe to rumors, it is widely known that Aridhoalean & NaBael Auvreathem once vied for the hand of Rumah Arabianea. It is conjectured that NaBael was driven mad by his passions after slaying the Beast of the Northern Rim. Because of this, they say he was forced to live out his live wandering deep within the forest. Yet here he is, as serene and in control of his faculties as any other. Well, except for now of course.

Galdor is in utter shock. He stammers out a response of gratitude. I don't blame him. None of us could have prepared for such an event. With NaBael's appearance, I can now see others of our clan starting to congregate at the edge of the clearing. Shame on them for not being here to send off Galdor in the first place! It seems Aridhoalean is going to try to wrap this up before things get out of hand...

"Hear Me, O Fier’Dal of Eythermitore! You have disgraced yourselves by your absence today. Your kinsman, Galdor, ventures forth from the safety and comfort of our glen for your salvation! Know this, and ruminate!" And with that, NaBael Auvreathem left as he arrived, striding back into the curtain of trees. None dared follow, not even me. Maybe he is a bit “off”, or maybe, just maybe, your shooting star has meant more than just nudging me to substitute Galdor for me for this task…

Well, with that, the ceremony was over whether Aridhoalean intended it or not, but the rumor mongering was just beginning. Lamah & Kerque helped Galdor secure his gifts to Aearion while Galdor and Tratia took a final stroll to impart their last farewells. It was several hours before Galdor reemerged, alone. “It looks like it’s just you and me now. Attend me! This is Ari’avel, the Silver Thorn. May you only draw it with purpose, wield it for good, and sheath it with honor.” “Donta Dos Mia Taerven…” “Common Tongue please, you are now a Traveler. Also, take this ring, and present it to Zaltar when you find him. With it he will know that you have answered his summons in my stead.” I presented him a pouch containing my signet ring; a stemmed silver rose with three thorns. The two thorns closest to the bloom were struck denoting the loss of my two elder brothers. “Take care of Aearion and he will take care of you. The Tuile’Slamori should be free of snow once you reach it, and it will be your most expedient path to Valoria.” And with that, my one time student was now a Traveler...

Uncle Swiz grumbles to himself as he huffs up the gangplank and onto the tall sailing ship.

"Gottago see Zaltar, again. Hmmmrrr. Too old for this long blasted journey, 'nd I've always strongly disliked boats. Food sucks Ogre's toes while yer out at sea! Why can't he just magic me across this damdable ocean?! Ah well, at least I'll get some readin done..."

The second mate is holding open the fo'c'sle cabin door for old Swiz, who paid plenty of extra platinum to sail - on what is likely the final journey of his long life - in as much comfort as he could afford. A hoarse, gravely voice rises up from near the sailors knees, "I reckon we ought to go inside, what with storm blowin up inall. Won't say no to wine, neither." A gnarled hand shoots out and upward to grip at the cloak of the startled sailor, "Aslongsits good wine. Can't stomach that swill from Wulfex no more. Names Gnistlegneiss, but you can call me Uncle Swiz. That's short for Swizillister Gnistlegneiss, which was my granpappy's name, on my cousins side, thrice unmoved. Seems he actually LIKED Wulfex wine, by all accounts, and needed ststjl ffslklaleoi gruopf...." The deep voice trails off as the wrinkled old gnome shuffles into the forecastle, spinning the tale of his name to nobody in particular....

The Tuile’Slamori

♫♪”Seinn an duan seo dhan Innis Àigh. An innis uaine as gile tràigh. Bidh sian air uairean a' bagairt cruaidh ris. Ach se mo luaidh-sa bhith ann a' tàmh” ♫♪

It has been a full Crescent since I left my beloved glen. Kethatria has kept me comforted with her sendings, as has the red-breasted robin that has shadowed me these last couple weeks. Just as Mia Taerven had predicted, the Tuile’Slamori was free of snow with only its cloak of mists remaining.

♫♪”Càit' as tràith an tig samhradh caomh. Càit' as tràith an tig blàth air craobh. Càit' as bòidhche 's an seinn an smeòrach. Air bhàrr nan ògan 's an Innis Àigh” ♫♪

Aearion has been somewhat kinder to me now that we have been on the path for some days. I keep him brushed and fed and ridden as infrequently as possible. He is a true friend. I can finally understand why Mia Taerven has spoken so highly of him.

♫♪”An t-iasg as fiachaile dlùth don tràigh. Is ann ma chrìochan is miann leis tàmh. Bidh gillean easgaidh le dorgh is lìontan. Moch, moch ga iarriadh mun Innis Àigh” ♫♪

Under the New, when the night was blackest, we were beset upon by worgs. Feral creatures to be sure. We could only count as a blessing that they were unridden. Aearion was as swift as lightning and as steady as a glassy pond. Lacking was any fear allowing me the ease of strike with Ari’avel. Once we had gutted one, the rest had turned upon their comrade as an easier meal. Aearion allowed me to tend his wounds which I think has endeared me to him.

♫♪”'S ged thèid mi cuairt chun an taoibh ud thall. 'S mi 'n dùil air uairibh gu fan mi ann. Tha tàladh uaigneach le teas nach fuairich. Gam tharraing buan don Innis Àigh” ♫♪

I wish Mia Taerven had told me more about this Zaltar. To ride half a continent away just to provide a kerymdare seems far too trivial than it can be.

♫♪”O 's geàrr an ùine gu'n teirig latha. Thig an oidhche 's gun iarr mi tàmh. Mo chadal buan-sa bidh e cho suaimhneach. Mo bhios mo chluasag 's an Innis Àigh” ♫♪

We should reach the Beryl Aluscoire by Sar`Maren. I understand the height from which the water falls is most impressive as well as quite deafening...

The Beryl Aluscoire

The Crescent was a beautiful emerald reflected in these consecrated waters the other night. I have filled my doeskin with the holy waters. We are making good time and look to arrive at the island off the shore within four more cycles. I hope the trip will remain as uneventful as it has this past revolution. I miss Kethatria and the glen, but this place... I could rest here for a while. Mia Taerven, you have been here before. You tried to describe it; now I understand how impossible it was. I will never forget this place.

Two Cycles past - Two Cycles to go...

Aearion and I made it up and over the Western Spine in record time...

Then it was through the Misty Wood and past the Wizard's Tower...

To the crossing to the Southern Isle of Pan

For a respite at the Inn on the Breakers...

And a bit of healing...

And then out to Sea...

Re:Moved "In Game" Fellowship of the Forge Story Here 9 Months, 4 Weeks ago
The last notes of music faded and Aria stood for a quick bow. Some of the inn patrons clapped or shouted requests for more, a few even tossed coppers onto the small stage. Aria stooped to gather the few coins and then hopped from the stage. Pickings were meager here, not unexpected for a small tavern in a small town. It mattered little though. The patron’s coins were simply a bonus, her real payment was the warm meal and nights lodging she had traded the inn keep for this evening’s performance. After weeks of traveling with caravan and sleeping on the ground, a night in a warm bed was worth a few songs.

Aria began winding her way through the crowd to the kitchens in back. Suddenly, rough hands gripped her waist, pulling her from her feat into the lap of a large, swarthy man. His face was dirty and bearded, and he smelled of sweat and ale. “Well aren’t you a pretty little bird” the man laughed, “you must be thirsty after so much sing’n. Why don’t you join me for a drink?”

“A thoughtful offer,” Aria said forcing a smile, “but it’s been a long day and I really must be getting to the kitchens. If I’m late, the cook may give my dinner to some other weary traveler”. Aria made to stand, but was again pulled from her feet as the man’s dirty hand encircled her wrist.

“Come now good sir, no need to be rude. You must have a mother, sisters perhaps? You certainly would not appreciate if some strange man were to lay hands on them?”

“Rude?” said the man, eyes widening in mock surprise, “and here I thought I was bein’ friendly.” The corner of his mouth drew up in a smirk that was anything but friendly as he leaned closer. “And as for me ma and sisters, they’re not the sort of women to be visitin’ a place such as this. No proper lady would”

Aria put on her most inviting smile, drawing near to the man despite the foul odor. “Would you like to know something else no proper lady would do?” The man’s smirk turned to a grin of anticipation. So distracted by his own fancies, he failed to notice the dagger that suddenly appeared in Aria’s hand. She leaned even closer, whispering in the man’s ear, “No proper lady would carry daggers up her sleeve.” She drew back and watched the man’s initial confusion turn to shock as the point of her dagger came to rest on his stomach. “Now then, I’ll ask just once more for you to kindly remove your hands.”

She watched as his eyes slowly lowered to her dagger, his head scarcely moving. She could see him considering. Could this tiny lass really harm him? Was she crazy enough to try? Aria gave him a steely stare, grinning slightly in what might have be taken for eagerness…The man’s grip popped open and Aria rose from his lap.

Aria made her way back to the kitchens without further interruption. Thankful that her bluff had worked. She preferred a diplomatic approach, but such persuasions were lost on some people. Little more than a day remained until she would reach her destination. Hopefully the journey would be worth the effort.
