Gobo - My Huge Barbarian 1 Year, 5 Months ago
This is my barbarian, named Gobo, that I play in a Pathfinder campaign run by my RL brother. Bohun just completed the paintjob and I will be using this mini to represent my character during our gaming sessions, which will most assuredly involve many DF setups. Hope you guys like him.

I really think that this guy is one of the best minis I have ever seen or had painted. Bohun is just brilliant. Look at the tattoos and the scars on the guy's back! And to think, I will get to game with this beauty during every one of my Pathfinder play sessions! Goddamn, I am giddy, here! Only DF fans could understand the pure joy of using a well-painted mini with their DF stuff. I am sure that my colleagues at my law firm would get a kick out of my enjoyment at these types of things. But, thankfully, when I post on DF forums, I am among friends who truly understand the passion and joy of our hobby. While this post gets buried in a seldom read subject category (i.e.,"Gaming Talk"), I know that perhaps a few of you quickly peruse this thread and appreciate this beauty as much as I do. I hope to put up a youtube video of this model in a beautiful diorama facing some ungodly nasty monster at some point. Perhaps, a gigantic FW Emperor Chaos Dragon? Would you guys like to see a picture or video of this guy facing such a gigantic dragon? Imagine, the guy just leaning on his axe and coolly staring down a ginormous dragon! Fun, fun, fun!

It is a gorgeous paint job. I hope to get a few minis professionally painted later, but most will be either prepainted or relying on my poor skills.

My coworkers find my hobby eccentric to say the least. One keeps referencing hobby train dioramas as a way to wrap his head around it. The best part is that they keep asking questions and making weird expressions at the answers! Sometimes I wonder if I should get a tent and charge admission? "See the freaks and geeks! Only one dollar!" I'm not offended, but I am certainly amused by their bewilderment. I find some mainstream hobbies just as confounding, I'm just more used to their weirdness than they are mine I suppose...

That is an excellent paint job, I certainly know I am unable to paint miniatures to that kind of detail.
Concerning my coworkers, I have no complaints. I work for Games Workshop and thus most of them are even nerdier than me :-)

Considering painting, I have a few ideas running rampart in my brain. I am trying to envision hosting a small painting tutorial here in these forums to explain some easy and basic painting techniques so that everyone can get some minimum paint knowledge. With all those Reaper Minis coming soon, I might really show step by step instructions for some of them in a kind of foto-love-story type of way...

I wonder if there's any interest in that.

Try comparing gaming to fantasy football.

Fantasy football is D&D for guys who used to beat up kids who played D&D.

That is a gorgeous mini, and an awesome paint job by Bosun! I looked up the mini, and it is from Raining Frogs Miniatures. Unfortunately, it was a limited edition, only 350 cast, and it's sold out already!

Congratulations on getting one, and getting it painted so amazingly well.

That tutorial set would be ever-so-welcome Dwarf! I have been devouring youtube paint tutorial videos. I used to paint some models years ago and could do a decent job, so I am hoping that with the right education and some practice I can develop decent skills.

I started a crafting thread to get some help with some paint related ideas for terrain, I hope to post some results in there later on for critique.

I was a jock nerd (jerd perhaps?)but could never get into Fantasy Football. There is more control and chance for skill in D&D.

@ Sorn - Another awesome mini. Regrading whether us "guys" would like to see a diorama of Gobo facing a gigantic dragon? I certainly would! I appreciate a well painted mini (I've spent many an hour perusing CMoN), but by far my favorite way to see such a mini is in setup or diorama. It brings an element of story to the art.

Dwarf wrote I am trying to envision hosting a small painting tutorial here in these forums...I wonder if there's any interest in that.
Let me add another enthusiastic YES!!!

Sorn, hell yes we want to see Gobo stand toe to toe with a wicked beastie! He looks great! First thing I thought of when I saw the pic, before reading, was that looks like Drus! (Drus the Legend by David Gemmell if you haven't read it is fantastic).

Dwarf, a painting tutorial post would be very helpful for everyone! I have been working on improving my skills so painting tips and tutorials are always welcomed. I have about three hundred mimis coming my way this year and I want them to look as good as I can make them.

Thanks, guys. I will have to put together a nice diorama and snap a few pics of Gobo staring down a gigantic dragon! I will then share it with you guys.
