Painted Terrain Scenery accesories Gaming surface 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Hey guys, Im new to DF, and must say excellent work to DF the thorough input of everyones information on the forum - has helped me alot! Great work!

I am actually looking for more information on Terrain, Scenery, Dungeon Furniture (Accessories) and Gaming surfaces / mats for D&D (25mm)

Everyone has posted quite alot of links BUT truth is i still dont find what im looking for... Input will be appreciated

Painted Accessories:

DF has an awesome collection

What I have found:

www.showcaseterrain.com/ (Good range of accesories)

From the forum:
psomminiature.com/en-uk/index.html
www.magneticdisplays.co.uk/ (Ships only to UK, small selection)

Painted Outside Terrain

What I have found:
stores.ebay.com/Terrain-Pig?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 (Looks interesting, though have not purchased yet)

From the forums:
www.samtrees.com (really nice trees)
www.hotzmatz.com (rivers)
theterrainguy.com/walls.html
www.terranscapes.com/index.php (Nice but bit expensive)

Gaming Surfaces / Mats with 1" Square

From the forum:
www.hotzmatz.com (variety of colours)

Basically im looking for more:

1. MORE variety of painted accessories

2. More variety of Painted terrain would be great - ie hills rocks etc etc

3. Mats/gaming surfaces with more colour and textures for different locations - basically looking for more detailed mats (maybe more colourful is the word?) - ie cobblestone, grass, desert, sea etc

If anyone can help, thank you in advance

put *gaming terrain* into an e-bay search - lots of stuff will pop up. Got my hills and lots of other stuff that way. Also, try searching for Dwarven Forge on e-bay and you'll get lots of painted and unpainted indoor stuff.

Cheers!

Welcome to the addictio *cough cough* hobby!

It is fairly easy to make your own mountains using insulating foam. If you are state side you can go to home depot or a similar place and buy the 3" thick pink insulating foam and use it to make your hills. See Tom's post showing his excellent mountains here. Sprinkle some flock on them and you are good to go.

Pre-painted furniture like dwarven forge offers is hard to come buy. You can purchase unpainted stuff from:

1. PSOM Miniatures
2. Thomarillioin Miniatures
3. Mega-Miniatures
4. Scotia Grendel

Often you can find Thomarillion's stuff on eBay painted by Yansolo but he doesn't seem to have anything for sale right now. I think PSOM will paint his stuff on commission if you ask. Some of his stuff comes painted already (treasure piles for example).

As for more variety of game mats - I have always found what I needed from Hotsmatz. They have two colors of grass, sea, and dessert. They don't have a cobblestone print but I can't imagine why you would want an entire mat covered with cobblestone. There is a company that makes large rubber mats that have a cobblestone print on them but you have to paint them yourself. They are called Zuzzy Miniature Terrain. They also have some unpainted terrain stuff.

Samtrees are excellent but you can also score some cheap trees on Amazon used by railroad hobbyists. The pine trees don't seem to shed very much. I have these. I glued them to cheap poker chips that I had painted black and then flocked them.

Gale Force 9 has a good selection of outdoor pre painted terrain.

Hills, rocks, rivers, etc

They also have gaming mats, although looks like they are the vinyl printed ones so maybe not what you are looking for if you want texture.

Gaming mats

And they also have the set of Underdark terrain, basically stalagmites.

Thanks for the suggestions

I couldnt find any (fine grain) insulating foam in my city (typical South Africa)... would have to go into the bigger cities to find this..... So instead I decided to use tree bark :D

Googled it, and its as simple as glueing it together, painting it black, dry brushing..... add flock for grass effect

Hope my experiment turns out good, as this is my first attempt at this!!!

Dungeon accessories are very difficult to come by painted, I have searched high and low, so i guess ill wait for some suppliers to stock as you mentioned and carry on searching the net

You should give painting accessories yourself a go. It is way easier than painting miniature figures. I think for me the hardest to paint were bookshelves but everything else was a breeze. If you want some tips we can help you.
