My Passion for DF 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Stefan,

This is a response to your recent post. Your words have shaken me to my bones. I can not begin to tell you the joy I have had over the years, many years, of collecting your product. Now My sons are getting to the age that they are enjoying it. As they get older I plan to grow their collection so when they go off to the university they will have their own DF collection. In fact, a few months ago I was passing comments back and forth on the forum with some folks about starting a YRTFW DF Gaming Weekend. I still am planning that and want DF to be an BIG part of what I create. I hope that all is well with your business. I hope that your comment was the normal sort of business man fear of the "next" product release. I want to one day build a collection for all the children my children may have. This is a true passion for me. If you ever get to the point that you think the doors need to close please contact me. I believe that Jeff has my contact info. I will personally create a kickstarter that will make the recent RP look like penny candy. I will go city to City and visit local gaming stores to spread the good news of DF. Short of it I will do what ever I can to keep my hobby alive and thus your business growing.

I hope things are ok for DF. I honestly really like Stefan and Jeff from reading there posts and emails they seem like really nice guys thst I would buy a beer for if I lived closer. I am fairly new to collecting DF sets even though I have watched them for years and I also have two sons that Im training to love DF products. Hang in there and you'll see the next generation supporting you as well. Honestly if I knew if you needed more sales ti keep in business, Id do my best to buy more sets ;-)

If I may be so bold, Shadox, your post QUADRUPLE ROCKS THE FREE WORLD!!!
I love this company and its products. I too hope Stefan was only speaking in passing, not seriously hinting DF is in trouble. I have only been collecting a couple of years but I feel as Shadox does. My collection will hopefully be an heirloom that will continue to be used by my kids (looks like my youngest daughter). I post all the time on my Facebook page with pics showcasing the awesome Dwarven Forge products. It is only helping advertise in my own small way, but hopefully that stimulates some sales for DF.
Let us know Stefan if Dwarven Forge needs help. This community will stand and support you.

Shadox - thanks for starting this thread

I'd like to add my vote of support for Stefan and the DF team. When I discovered DF earlier this year I knew I'd found something that would become a life-long hobby. The excitement of waiting for a DF order to arrive makes me feel like a kid again. My only regret regading DF is that I didn't discover it earlier. I lament missing out on older sets and have no intention of letting another set pass me by. As long as Stefan is creating, I'll be buying.

Same for me! Dwarven Forge is not only part of my hobby, it changed my view of the hobby. I don't think I would have started collecting and painting miniatures if it wasn't for the joy I had to game with my friends in the awesome Dwarven Forge Dungeons. I have fond memories of stacking my first ten boxes high on the wall in the tiny apartment me and my girlfriend had when we were in college and of all the game nights in the party room in the basement of the dorm.

Indeed we will! :D
I bought 11 sets in 2012 to increase my collection which is growing for ten years. Next year will buy even more. I will do my part. :)

Thank you Shadox for posting this thread. We are all very passionate about our Dwarven Forge.Seeing what you all do with your next build or the figure one of you just painted is an exciting part of my day.The DF community is strong and cant wait to help their DF.There is no mistake the demand is out there for fantasy terrain. The kickstarters have showed us that.It is my observation (from gaming in gamestores to keep my home game full)that there is a huge generation of new gamers who would be excellent new clients for DF.They just dont know about it at all or have just heard its expensive. When I tell them most sets are only between $100 and $150 they are almost always suprised. When I show them pictures of one of my builds like the "Water Temple" or "Gargolyle City" they cant belive this is out there.I belive not enough of these new gamers know about DF and there is pleanty we can do about it.Most of us old timers play in our homes with our own groups.I say grab a few sets go to your game store on a Wednesday evening(DND Night)and set up a small build and run an enounter. Its free.Or Post your pictures of your build on other websites.I recently posted a few pictures on the Scotia Grendel Forums in the introduction section.Over 1400 views already.People want to see it.The Wizards website doesnt even have (I dont think) a place on their boards to post pictures.Yet.I havnt seen one on Paizo eather.Yet. Or Cool Mini or not, wheres the terrain to put all those amazing figures. How many people have stumbled on to the DF website and become customers after seeing all of the pictures here. They buy one set and Bam!Welcome to the addiction! we could have a contest of awsome build pictures here on the website the winner gets their build on a DF T-Shirt to be sold here at DF. We Need DF wear to show our pride at game stores and conventions. To sum up,Quality never gos out of style. Thanks for lisening to my rant.Thank you all for inspireing me everyday.Thank you for Dwarven Forge

DF is the only gaming product that makes what's going on in my imagination come alive on the table. I hope to be buying sets for decades to come!

I know Shadox's passion for Dwarven Forge. Stefan and I collaborated on a custom piece for Shad, which I painted up for him. This is the kind of camaraderie that one rarely finds, but is common on this forum.

Df is THE reason my group started using miniatures in the first place. We played for years without them. If it wasn't for DF I probably never would have gotten into the miniatures hobby at all. Now I enjoy painting and collecting minis and I owe a heartfelt thank you to Stefan and Jeff.

Agree 100% with all of the above! Many great thoughts & ideas.

Where can they advertize more?

I have thought for years that they should have an e-bay store to direct people to their normal web-store...Custom piece kickstarter? Hats & tee-shirts? Personal web-site as several DF forum members have are great for publicity...Amazon Marketplace? A downloadable e-book of different layouts, both full color and schematic?

Other ideas?

Shadox and friends,

I really appreciate your posting and support...I am really moved. I thank you all so much! Wow.
I actually feel even worse now about criticizing that other Kickstarter project...I don't want to be a destroyer of other people's dreams or to be thought of as arrogant...I really have learned a valuable lesson and I am humbled...i suppose it was a knee jerk reaction of self preservation + a lot of stress lately around my personal life...

I should never forget what great collectors and enthusiasts there are assembled on these forums...you are all honestly a great group of people. I owe everybody a lot for all the great and exciting years that DF has given me...but I also realize, especially after reading what Shadox and others wrote that I have a pact now with all the fellow enthusiasts here...DF should never die...we should in fact grow!

here is the incredible thing....We have honestly been only 1 or 2 bad sets away from going under since our inception in 1996...unbelievably, we have been able to sell out just about every single creation we have made since opening! It's mind boggling at times to me, it really is!

My only problem it seems at times is that I work too slow....or production times get longer, shipments get delayed, and it puts us in a pinch...

Anyway, I won't bore you with details of our travails...i would get in trouble with my partners as well I think...

But i will let this out: A plan is in the works that just might change the landscape...it is something of a dream that has only become possible now after all these years, the time is ripe....we shall put it in play and see what happens, my hope is that it brings more collectors into the fold, those who have wanted to come, and I also honestly think that long time collectors will be just as excited! If you do care about DF then I would ask your help when the time is ripe, spread the word, bring them in...it will be good for all of us, a win, win...we will bring back the joy of gaming to the masses, resurrect it's long sleeping slumber, a rennaisance is before us! It is possible!

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

Stefan
