What is your favorite music to set the DF mood 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Does anyone have some favorite music they like to play to set the mood when playing rpg's using DF set-ups. I'm hoping to find some good songs to play during future sessions.

Thanks in advance for any ideas and suggestions.

Before a game, if I'm setting up or just getting into the mindset:

"Florin Dance", "The Friends' Song", and "Sword Fight" from the Princess Bride soundtrack

"Two Hornpipes" from the PotC: Dead Man's Chest soundtrack

"Glorious Gluttonous Greed" from Z: the Masked Musical (the only good song)

"Overture", "The Masked Ball", "Sigh No More Ladies", and "Strike Up Pipers" from the Much Ado About Nothing soundtrack

"Withnail's Theme" from the Withnail & I soundtrack

"My Heart Knows a Lovely Song", "Outfox the Fox", "I Live to Love", and "The Maladjusted Jester" from the Court Jester soundtrack

"All in the Mind" and "Only Martha Knows" from Doctor Who soundtracks

"Bookends Theme" (both pieces) by Simon & Garfunkel

"Concerning Hobbits" from the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack

"Entre'acte", "Into the Fire", "Falcon in the Dive", "The Riddle", and "The Scarlet Pimpernel" from the Scarlet Pimpernel soundtrack

"Home at Last", "As the World Falls Down", and "Within You" from the Labyrinth soundtrack

"Journey of the Sorcerer" by the Eagles (yes, it was the theme to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but the full version is so much more)

"The Lonely Shepherd" by Zamfir (Master of the Pan Flute)

"Seduction" from the Jekyll & Hyde (Highlights) soundtrack (the far superior Eder/Colm version they released to finance the play)

"Young Frankenstein: Transylvania Lullabye" from A History of Horror

"The Call" and "A Dance 'Round the Memory Tree" from the Narnia soundtracks

and

Sting and Eden Karamazov's album "Songs from the Labyrinth"

Go ahead.
Ask what I play during a game.
I dare you.

Most of the times: Conan the Barbarian soundtrack.

For big kick-ass final boss combats: The epic symphony written by John Williams for the final battle between Obi Wan/Qui Gon/Darth Maul of Star Wars Episode I.

Soundtracks from:
"The Last Unicorn" animated movie,
"Gladiator",
"The Last of the mohicans",
"Far and away",
"Bram Stokers Dracula",
"Backdraft",
"Terminator 2 - Soundtrack",
"Pirates of the Carribean",
"The 13th warrior" with Antonio Banderas,
"Lord of the Rings",
"World of Warcraft - Soundtrack",
"King Arthur",
"Kull",
"Mission Impossible",
"The Mummy",
"The Rock",
and many more.
Please note that movie names may differ in german from the original. In general, I like to play some metal in between, too. But only melodious (power metal) or hard rock.

Awesome set list, Jack!

The POTC soundtrack is great, and I have a strong preference for Dead Can Dance, myself. Aion is a great album for ROTA games, especially Saltarello and Black Sun.

I also love using some older VNV Nation tracks, though they work best for WH40K games. "Chosen," off Praise the Fallen, is great. It's an ominous spoken word track, the lyrics set an awesome mood:

Order is shattered in a strange guttural tone
resounding along the walls of the houses which seemed dead and deserted, while Behind the closed shutters, eyes watched the conquerors
Who, by right of war, were now masters of the city and of the lives and fortunes of its people

In their darkened ruins, the inhabitants have given way to the same feeling of panic which is aroused by natural cataclysms,
Those devastating upheavals of the Earth against which wisdom and strength alike are of no avail,
Though the same feeling is experienced wherever the established order of things is upset,
When security ceases to exist,
When all that was previously protected by the laws of man and nature
is suddenly placed at the mercy of brutal, unreasoning force.

The earthquake, burying a whole people beneath the ruins of their houses, The river in spate, sweeping away the bodies of drowned peasants together with the carcasses of cattle and rafters torn from roofs
And the victorious army slaughtering all who resist,
Making prisoners of the rest,
looting by right of the sword,
And thanking their god to the sound of cannon.

All these are terrifying scourges which undermine all our belief in eternal justice and all the trust we have been taught to place in divine protection and human reason....

I never play music during my games - I find it pretty distracting and that it actually takes away from the atmosphere rather than adding to it.

I side with Harneloot. I too find it a distraction during the game. However, prepping for a game is another matter. I usually find myself listening to Blue Oyster Cult, especially "Black Blade" and the rest of the Cultosaurus Erectus LP. You cannot miss when Michael Moorcock is your lyricist! Other favs are The Broadsword and the Beast album by Jethro Tull and British Steel by Judas Priest.

But Mars, the Bringer of War is a great pick!!
