Per various Discussions in the Past (Especially recently)... It seemed time to Start an "Adventure" Thread... Unfortunately I Still do Not have a Digital Camera So My Own Submissions are going to be conspicuously in absence for now... But I Figured Folks Could Post Pics or Diagrams of their DF Layouts here? Maybe Include a Room Key? Synopsis of the Adventure? What do You Folks Think?

It would be great to see how others are using their DF during gaming.

The pictures in the Cool Photos section are spectacular, but also seem to be more dioramas then actual game usage.

As per my conversation on the Forums with MLV recently, I would love to do this. I will be designing a module/adventure over the Christmas break for my players, and it will be designed around DF scenery, so I would/could love to do this, just to get the ball rolling, as it were...

CalicoDave;

Just to let you know dude... All my pics on these forums are from actual game play setups. I have 4 cats, so I cannot leave my setups as displays, all my pics are 'used'. That is why I post large quantities of pics at a time, because they are taken the night before a gaming session.

MLV;

If this idea is a go, please let me know, and I will definitely keep this thread in mind when I design my next module/adventure.

Darkfather,

I posted in this thread then went to the Cool Photos section and saw you'd posted with "here's the grand finale for my adventure"

Oops on me! :oops:

Heya CD;

No worries dude... (I re-read my post just now, it did seem a little 'defensive' didn't it?).. sorry about that, it wasn't meant that way.

No problem!

How do you use the big setups in game? Do you keep it covered until the PC's reach an area and just uncover the new area, or is it open for all to see and rely on the players not looking ahead?

This is all I do.

Oh, and I don't place monsters/encounters until PC's are within Line of Sight. That way areas like this HAVE TO be explored (if the players want ALL their XP).. hehehe....

Thanks for the pics.

I haven't had a chance to use my DF stuff in a game yet, and I hadn't decided if I'd build as I go, or pre-build for play.

I like the covering the un-explored areas, and, if I'm feeling a little evil, I could build extra areas that really aren't used and cover them.

DM: "You search the hallway and find nothing."
PC: "There's got to be a secret door here, there's more covered Dwarven Forge on the other side of the wall!"

ROFL!! A classic example of Metagaming.

One of my players used to do that, even so far as their 1st/2nd level character telling me (the DM) that 'this or that' monster has certain abilities/hp/AC, etc. (When that particular CHARACTER (not player) had never come across that creature before).

They soon stopped metagaming, when the other PC's were gaining XP, and levels and they were not.

Me - "Ok, the Rogue, the Ranger, the Fighter, and the Sorcerer all level up."
Cleric PC - "What about me?"
Me - "Nope, sorry. Your inexhaustable knowledge of all things worldly, and otherwise, has held your advancement back. Where-as the other party members were willing (and able) to learn about their foes from battles, and post battle post-mortems, you seemed to know everything already. This unfortunately has lowered the amount of XP you have obtained, as your godlike knowledge made it useless for you to take notice of your surroundings.
Cleric PC - "WTF?!"
Me - "Oh, sorry, the Cleric only has Intelligence of 14, I will say it in simpler terms.... Your being a smarta**, and I, and the other players, are sick of it. You needed 2000 XP to advance, but only gained 500 in total, sorry.
Game Room Door - "SLAM!"
Cleric PC - "Screw this!"
Rest of Party - WILD APPLAUSE!

RPG Good - Metagaming BAD!

Calico Dave,

To Build as you Go or Not to Build as You Go... That is the Ongoing Question... AND actually has been the Topic of Other Threads too... For Myself I Build as I Go, (Which is one reason why I do not usually Use the Bow-ties... Which of course is a whole "Other" Discussion)... I Have Seriously Considered "Mounting" some Basic Rooms on a Thin Piece of Board or similar so that I Can Use Ready Rooms... Some one else posted that they Like to Pre-build the Rooms on a piece of Board and then "Slide" them on to the the Table as needed... Others have said that they set everything up in advance and then just Change a Few Details out here and there as Characters enter the Area... Once you Get a Chance to Use this Stuff let us Know what your Prefrence is?

DarkFather,

I Occasionally Dock experience on the Go... For instance if a Character (Player), Ignores A Warning about Metagaming or Playing out of Character, then I'll Start deducting Points if they can not Explain "Why" they Knew that Trolls Regenerate etc... One of the Classic Lines I Got Back was when a Player's 1st level Fighter "Knew" about Specific Details of some of the Outer Planes... When I Asked How this Knowledge could have Been Gained She Replied "Transporter Accident!"... I Lost it... Could'nt be Upset at all after that...<Chuckle>... But Still Docked her a Couple Hundred Experience of Course...<EFG>...
