Re:PROJECT X 2 Years, 9 Months ago
jls304 had posted 2 Grendel resin casts beautifully painted as inspiration for the sewer set. There are 2 remaining pieces from the Grendel grills set but I could not find a picture of them with a satisfying paint job. I then put an end to my procrastination and hastily painted them myself:

What paint did you use for the grills? They look great.

I used my Vallejo Model Color paints. I'm not sure which one I used as I have so many! Painting skill matters more then the actual company the paint is from.

Base coat the rocks with Model Color 88 Gunship green
Black wash the rocks with Model Color 169 Black
Dry brush the rocks with Panzer Aces 336 Afrika Korps Tankcrew
(This mimics close enough the DF classic set painting scheme)

Base coat the grill with Model Color 169 Black
Mix 5:1 Model Color 163 Dark Seagreen with Model Color 179 Gunmetal Grey
(This provide a grey color with only a hint of metallic paint)
Apply sparingly on upper part of grills and avoid bolts.
Dry brush with Model Color 179 Gunmetal Grey (large grills) & Model Color 178 Natural Steel (small grills; it ended up too shiny IMO, I should have done Gunmetal grey for both).

Do some red washes in some recesses for rust effects. I used some old GW Citadel Tin Bitz that did not dry on me for the large handles.

Wow! Now that's an awesome hint. Thanks!

That looks like a beautiful piece in that set. Your a wonderful artist Stefan...hats off to you and all the other wonderful artists that make DF possible. Thank you for all the hard work. We sure appreciate it.

I wonder if you can remove the skeletons on the slabs for use elsewhere?
