My Painted Shifting Lands Resin Boats 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I had reported (here) a review upon my recent buying of beautiful resin casts of several ships from Shifting Lands. As promised, here are pictures of the painted boats.

I believe these boats are perfect for RPG. There is a lot of space to have fights on the deck of the merchant vessels. The medium size "pimped" boats would be enough to hold a small party venturing upon a dangerous river. They also have quite an elven style. The small boats are very cute and remind me of the promo piece I believe one would get when buying multiple Cavernous rivers & walls sets... except that is sells for only 5 Euros and you have to paint it yourself. Finally, I was first not to keen in buying any submarine from Gerard but since he gave them to me for free, I painted them anyway. I don't regret it one bit as they have to me a very gnomish style and I will probably use them as decors for a weird Gnomish lab, beside their cliché Zeppelin.

Very nice! I like painting style 1 for the merchant vessel. Are these assembled or do they come in kits?

You only need to fix the mast on the bigger ships anything else is already put together.
The painting job is excellent, congratulations.
I had the honour of meeting the suclptor himself on the Tactica Convention in Hamburg last year and hope to see him there again this year.

Such beautiful boats/ships. I don't understand why more miniature companies can't produce boats of this quality for us.

Nice paint job on these Biowizard. Where did you pick up the rough seas gaming mat under your boats. It looks nice with the shifting lands boats on top. I can just imagine sea monster tentacles rising out of the water to grasp the boats.

I'm glad you like 'em! These are soooooooooooooo easy to paint! Even the newest of newbies can learn fast the basics of dry brushing with them.

I won't unfortunately talk right now about the water pictures as it is part of a bigger project that I want to present as a whole when it is done in a few months.

I love to look of your boats and I just ordered a set from shifting lands! Yay, he got back to me :)! Could you give us some advice on the technique you used to paint them. I always love your painting tutorials. Also, would you be willing to tell us where the water background/board came from that you have your boats on for the photo shoot? Thanks in advance

Sorry for the delay, I just got back from a well-deserved 3 weeks vacation.

I just can't locate back the internet site from where I got the following image (I'm sorry for any copyright infringement issue):

Painting the boats is too easy to describe in great details:

The basics:
-priming
-2 basecoats (medium tone)
-1 wash (darker tone)
-1 dry brushing (lighter tone)
-matt sealing

Thanks for the tips Biowizard. I agree the actual painting will be simple. I was really interested in what shades of paint you picked for the wood, rope, and deck details :).

My shifting land boats arrived today! They are just as beautiful as these pictures indicated! Gerald is a very nice fellow I hope he keeps making new boats and terrain.

Here are the raw unpainted boats as they came out of the box. Notice that I talked Gerald into shipping me one of the large ships!
