Granted, this is not directly on the sort of ancient ruines that inspired some of our favorite DF sets, but I still thought people might find it worthwhile:

Oh, and please don't let the word "porn" in the URL scare you away (or suspect someone of hacking my account to post spam!) It's being used the way people talk about "food porn" or "toy porn" -- just HQ photos that seem to fetishize some particular subject that people really want to gaze at.

I clicked it BECAUSE it said "porn". JK ;)

A friend of mine studied photography (I think at NYU???) and did most of her work with old abandoned buildings. I thought they were beautiful pictures.

Very cool article. Reminds me of my (not too long gone) days of sneaking into the old Willowbrook mental hospital (in Staten Island- Geraldo Rivera did an expose called "Willowbrook: The Last Disgrace" on the abuses there when he was still a real investigative journalist).

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willowbrook_State_School

As a teenager, we went at night for some cheap thrills...which I probably would have reconsidered had I known about the murders that had taken place there after the facility had closed. As an adult, I feel some remorse for trespassing on a site of such pain and misery just for some fun.

Having educated myself on what really took place there, I've gone back in within the past couple of years to sort of pay my respects to this forgotten piece of history. I've found myself being fascinated with how time and the elements reclaim spaces we have built upon, how trees and plants can grow on, into and through concrete buildings. It might be my imagination, but the place seems to hold a certain power.
