That's a shame. My wallet's happy, but it's a shame.

It was pretty easy to see coming, though. There hadn't been any indications of what would follow Lords of Madness, and there seemed to be more activity with things like DDM Heroscape (or whatever that game is called) and the Ravenloft game. It seemed like the writing was on the wall.

For awhile it seemed like DDM was a massive runaway hit -- I suppose that ended. I hope WOTC can still make money with D&D, back when 4.0 started, I had the impression that the minis were a core resource for them (that was my cynical take on the fact that 4.0 made bigger use of minis -- DDM started to feel less like a separate game and more like part of regular D&D to me).

I was easy to see it coming, they killed-off the game when they convert it to 4.0, making the collection of hundreds of minis and cards almost useless

Well, I wouldn;t say the minis are useless for D&D 4.0 (I still play 3.5). I mean, a Fire Giant is still a Fire Giant and a Hobgoblin is still a Hobgoblin, right?

It would have been nice to see the line continue, but what a fun ride its been! I've got thousands and thousands of pre-painted plastic minis that I am happily using for my D&D game and will continue using long into the future - something I always wanted when I was growing up and playing the game and now finally have!

In fact, if it wasn't for the DDM line, I may never have bothered to collect Dwarven Forge to put my minis in!

Wow, that sucks. I cant paint worth a lick and DDM was the main reliable way for me to get pre-painted minis. I got into DF because I thought the minis were too damn cool for my crappy dry-erase mapping skills. Now that I'm so in love with DF, I'm not gonna let some cruddy cardstock token into my gorgeous DF layout. I know Reaper has a small line of pre-painted plastics. Anyone know of anyplace else that makes them?

Well, I don't think the death of DDM is the death of pre-painted Mini's. In fact, if I were Reaper I would use this opportunity to expand my line. I have a feeling there is a still a demand for pre-painted, it's just Hasbro has to have the product be not just profitable, but to reach a certain, probably pretty high, threshold of profitability. A reaper or even an unknown company might be perfectly happy with a profit that is only a fraction of what Hasbro wants....

Who knows, maybe it will even be worth it for DF to look into it, or perhaps that ship has sailed.....

Formerly Celtchief, I just could not seem to log in under that name.... Proud owner of NEARLY every DF set, hope to fix that in the next 6 months or so..... This stuff makes ANY RPG better.

My DF collection is only outdone by my DDM collection :). Luckily I
have everything I want with the exception of a few rares I want more of :D.
I see common orcs and goblins going up a lot in value along with the other
staples like red dragons and what not.

Orcs weren't ever worth much because they made new ones almost ever set but
now those figures will be in high demand for new DnD players.

Part of me is glad since I have what I want and don't need to splurge when
a new set comes out. Plus what I have should go up in value I think.
But yeah, it does suck that there won't be any more coming out....

I still need a HUGE BLUE and BLACK DRAGON :(

In one way I'm sad, as I do buy every set and have over 5,000 of these buggers. In another way I'm happy. I HATE the Lords of Madness very rare model and was planning on never buying another DDM product following this rarity policy. The Hydra alone is ~$40. Grrr.

Thankfully I have a ton of DDMs to populate my DF with. :)

I agree with Crazyscotsman that some company (Reaper being a strong possibility) will pick up the mantle and greatly expand their line of pre-painted plastics. And on another positive note, WotC said they will continue to create minis for other lines (I'm guessing Heroscape and their board games like Ravenloft) as well as their limited edition line. Better than nothing at all I guess. Here's to the hope of them finishing their chromatic dragons line someday soon.

It's too bad but it was too expensive, instead of paying 25$ + tax for 6 miniatures I might want I would rather spend it on the secondary market for the ones I would use for sure. To me that was a better way of buying the minis but Hasbro gets nothing from secondary sales.

They also canceled some of their books, I was looking forward to the "Mordekeinen's Magnificent Emporium" but it's gone now too apparently.

Also they changed their "Character Builder" to an online server format so instead of saving your characters on your own computer you must pay to keep your subscription active in order to retrieve the info.

Looks like paper is cheaper than plastic since they won't cancel the Dungeon Tiles (which are terrible!) and are adding some sort of card game that gives your character random powers and abilities - good luck with that! Most players would just ask the DM if your character can try something, give reasons why it might work and then roll with the appropriate modifier.

I don't think it will be long before they cancel d&d all together. Maybe stefan can buy the rights! Just imagine df putting out d&d specific sets!
