Just found a great throne for my Den of Evil...... 4 Years, 2 Months ago
I guess this was put out in the mid 80s by citadel/games workshop for
a lord of the rings line of figures. I was very impressed and can't wait
to see this baby in action....

I am on the verge of taking up painting. A friend of mine started
war hammer 40k and has become really good in a very short time. With
his help I may try and paint it. I think I will probably start on
my other furniture and accesories(Been collecting accesories recently). I have some real simple wooden looking furniture that I will probably tackle first... then maybe work up into some grendel stuff before trying
this.

Btw there is another one ebay right now in Europe. Don't know how
rare this is but I had never them before, of course I never searched either so they might come up all the time. I just figured that If I went nuts for it someone here would too.

No no no !! Are you crazy !!? I paid the 2 expansions of Warhammer Quest (new not opened) the price of two DF sets... (300€) And I spent too much time on it to glue & paint the pieces. I have to finish the figurines now.
There are several thrones you can buy one of thomarillion for instance or other marks :

The Thrones and bookshelves look terrific! I wish I could paint that way. My one concern is durability! From what I have read through other, non-DF boards, Thomarillion pieces tend to break easily. How true is that Hero? How easily can they break?

I cannot answer you on that because I use to buy it then I do a replica in resin and I sell the original each time as soon as possible :
I hate plaster !
All my furnitures are in resin now.

However I can remember very well my plaster nightmare :
-> My first modular dunjeon was from the UK years ago.
A guy with his own company was doing floor tiles stairs walls and doors but all in plaster using Hist Arts or something like that.
As I hadn't time to cast myself I took the risk to buy a complete dunjeon, enough to have a playing surface of 2m²... a weight of 5kgs !
Most of my orders arrived in pieces or ... dust !
5 kgs of plaster I finally gave to a friend to try resin.
Too fragile to me even when you put a shader on it : a quick bad move and plaf ! Adios your piece : bingo you won a puzzle !
So if you have the choice take resin furnitures. (less weight too)

Hey guys!
I just came back from the gaming fair in Essen, one of the greatest in europe and I talked to the guys from Thomarillion. They told me that they are trying to change all their furniture in the medium term to resin. It might still take a lot of time though (they said, about 6 months). On the game fair they already had a lot of the stuff in resin and I managed to buy some of the bookshelves and I have to admit that it really is more resilient. It's lighter, too. They admitted that it might have also a price raise of about 20-40% but it's not a fixed yet, since they are still in negotiations with their resin supplier.
Concerning miniatures, I bought a lot of Hordes, Warmachine and Helldorado miniatures for way less than normal price, in order to boost my roleplaying collection. I also got some dwarves from Kings of War (have already tons of dwarves, but I can't resist :-)), some Otherworld stuff (their gelatinous cube is delicious :-)) and a couple of nice price miniatures.
They I visited Q-Workshop since they have the best dice in the world (IMHO) and of course Microart studios though they didn't have the bases I wanted. These booths are visited by me every year for the last 6 years at least, so we know each other and it's nice to see those guys.
It was on one such game fair in Essen in 2001 I think, when I got to know DF and Jeff sold me the dungeon they had on display there for a REALLY fair price. That's where I got my first DF stuff and I left the gaming fair with about 25 sets and was a happy man. Unfortunately, DF never came to the fair again and for a couple of years I haven't seen ANY DF stuff there anywhere (and believe me, I asked a lot of people...). The same goes for this year.
OK, thanks for reading all this stuff :-)

Wow, the first time in 18 years I'm not going to the gaming fair in Essen and dramatic things happen. Thomarillion changes to resin? Seriously?
That's pretty cool (minus the price increase, but that's understandable).

I remember the time when Dwarven Forge was on the fair. That was 2001? Man, time flies. The Dwarven Forge stall was slightly left on the opposite side of the stall I was working.
I think it was roughly around three month before that I had seen a Dwarven Forge Dungeon for the first time in my life. The GM of my group just reached to a mysterious box besides the gaming table and started to setup a little cavern dungeon without any warning or announcement, as if we would have always gamed with DF.
It was a memorable moment. The seed for an everlasting addiction was sown...

And why am I not going to this years gaming fair? Well, because of the money. I just made another Dwarven Forge order this week. ;-)

I really am happy to hear about Thomarillion moving to resin. I picked up a ton of stuff from them recently, including lots of bookshelves, and the fragility is outrageously frustrating. It's one of the main reasons I moved away from Hirst Arts. I barely touched my stuff, and it still ended up with small chips -- not actual "damage" per se, but areas where the paint came off from a small ding. Resin would be AWESOME.

I'm still happy I have the ones I do, to tide me over -- plus, bookshelves in quantity are always awesome. But the new ones will be must-haves.

Anyone have an idea as to the costs of shipping Thomarillion pieces to the states? I've only seen U.S. shipping costs for items listed on eBay and their usually inexpensive unless the seller pads the charges.
