Our first game with the Dwarven Forge stuff. 4 Years, 1 Month ago
I just finished setting up for tonight's game(my players should arrive in the next 40-50 minutes). One of my players knows I have Dwarven Forge stuff and we've been wanting to use it but we've been at everyone elses place lately. I finally convinced everyone to use my place(I don't want to lug a bunch of boxes) so tonight they're going to get a surprise(well except the one player who knows, and he's excited about the idea of 3-D dungeons instead of using the maps that we've used so far). Full report on our adventure will be tomorrow(we'll game until we all go to bed and I'll be too sleepy to post later tonight). Despite all the stuff I have tonight is the first time using it. Huzzah! *Eyeballs the pretty dungeon* I cry for my lack of digital camera to show pictures.

We're doing that first dungeon from Scales of War for D&D4E.

Awesome!!! Have a great time and I'm sure your players will be wowed! Post at least even a cell phone picture of the whole set up!

How did you deal with the age old question of how to cover the parts of the dungeon not yet explored without giving anything away about shape of upcoming rooms etc?

The first dungeon is a sequence of small rooms so I'm using the "build as you go route". The first area is set up already. I'm sad that I didn't get the Advanced Builder Sets before this(I'm having to modify a room or two to take in account my lack of diagnals) but no biggie. I'm especially dissapointed in my lack of anything to make a good ooze. I have plenty of hobgoblins(well close enough to them anyways) and quite a few other things that can represent the shades, wraiths, goblins, etc in the dungeon. But I don't have anything to be an ooze. I'm sort of just using....a round rock. *L*

Get inventive. I cut two pieces off a bar of swirly green soap to make gelatinous cubes. Take some peanut butter and put it on a 2"x 2" base. Call it an ochre jelly. Or use jam, although it's sticky, so maybe not.

Happy gaming. I remember the first time I saw the DF. Blew my mind and it was only 1 or 2 sets, setting up as we went. Beautiful.

We never got to the ooze encounter so I didn't have to worry about it. I like that idea about the swirly green soap though. I'll have to check next time I go to the market. We've got a bit until our next game because one of our players is out of town for two weeks. Helps on the ooze end. Sad that we're not playing tonight or next Wednesday like we normally do though.

Good luck on your gaming sesion, I know all those that havenot seen or been able to play an adventure with DF layouts , are going to be BLOWN AWAY. I have found many useful accessories like slimes and oozes from toy departments. alot of the action figures come with all types of kewl little pieces that can be altered and used for game play. I have also made really good usables slimes with a glue gun and then paint.
happy gamming

Yeah, the players were blown away. Then again I blew them away the week before and then all I was using were stuff from those 3-D cardboards sets that WotC releases for D&D. My players are used to hand drawn(or printer inked) stuff. So the whole idea of fancy tiles appealed to them. What I need to get are some models/miniatures/etc for torches when I think about it.

The old Deluxe Room set use to have wall pieces with torch holders and actually came with lit & unlit torches to put it them. I might have such a set lying around I could part with if interested.

Anyways we had our second game today(the two week vacation one of our players was on officially ended). This time we got through multiple encounters. Also we took pictures this time(the person who did said he'll have them uploaded either tonight or more likely tomorrow). I'll post them once we get them. Ended up using Chaos Beasts from Descent as the ooze. Our players got their first brush with death as they nearly died to a pair of specters. The ooze had them so freaked out that they didn't realize it was the decoy. It barely damaged them. Specters popping in and out of walls and firing off spectral barrages with an area burst 2 while invisible on the other hand were brutal.
