The whole next set (savage Encounters) of WoTC pre-painted plastic minis has been spoiled!

Check it out here:

I think the Fallen Villager is a good idea and its about time we seen a killer plant! Not a bad looking set.

I also like the fallen villager and the plant.
To me though, it seems the quality of the minis are lacking. The last set was pretty good and now this one is lacking big time. Seems they can't get any consistency with the production quality like they had back in the day.
I think I might get a few more that I need to finish up for game play. Otherwise I am going to start painting my own minis for deco as well as players/monsters.

Plant and Marilith are my favs.

could it be that they are not lacking, but just filling in the lesser popular minis? (then again I dont know enough to know what the popular ones really are)
I didnt notice a difference of quality by looking at the pics, although the Shardstorm Vortex and Specter are kinda lacking differential details aside from shape.

edit: economy issues affecting minis possibly?

Its not the less popular minis. Its the lack of details that I'm used to on the older sets. Granted when Harbinger first came out the quality wasn't all there. But as the WoTC did sets they got better and more detailed. To me it seems that they have cut on the quality aspect of the minis.
Also the pics are not the best ones. Maybe they "could" be better then what I'm seeing.

I agree completely with purgatory here, in fact I was going to state and comment exactly the same when I open the thread, because I read it earlier when there was only 2 post, and hadn't time to post then.

I can't think about any "new version" of old minis that doesn't seems pretty lame for me (may be there are some, but I can't remember any right now).

Plus, possibly the pics aren't too good but you can't trust in the WotC minis gallery either to get an idea of the look of the mini in person, they used to be pretty fair before.

I have the impression that War of the Dragon Queen and a few next expansion (and some others before) was the best moment in DD minis, and then the quality has been reduced, but specially with the rares, been every time less and less of the more beautiful and detailed, while the uncommon and common maintained the quality for the most part. Then, the quality of those started to been reduced too, and now the the last too expansions look very bad for me.

It seems for me too that they are abusing a little of transparent plastic minis, I can't understand, in the beginning of them I think I remember they stated they were more expensive to make so most of them were rares and uncommons, but now there are plenty of them, a lot of them with simplistic design, while the more detailed minis and best painted seem to have completely disappeared. Even the new visible hero minis in boxes, IMHO are pretty bad.

Now I'm moving to metal minis painted by a pro (I don't have time nor skills for minis), while the monsters and PNJs are from old expansions, and still pic some from every expansion, but I can feel that the budget invested in DDM have been cut (not intentionally) to a 25% compared with the ammounts I spent before. Sure, with every expansion I need less monsters, but even the ones that I hadn't and I was expecting to be released are very disapointing.

Is this the impressions of a few of us, are we getting more demanding with quality, or is this really happening?

Giving more strength to the theory of WotC cuting budget, I have to give notice that the Icons line have disappeared too (goodbye gargantuan green dragon :-( ).

My two cents, greetings all,
arsthein

However it should be mentioned that these are likley factory rejects so there might be a reason these don't look that great.
These aren't out due till November, and buyers who purchased from this site for the last set noticed a marked difference in the paint quality between these presales and what came out after release.

They certainly look muddier than usual -- darker colors, and less crisp details.

I've been almost an apologist for DDM, as much as I like Reaper and Confrontation and so on, I've always found DDM to be plastic crack.

But this set... I don't know. I'm really only tempted by two or three of these guys. The Sorrowsworn Reaper, the killer plant, the tiefling necromancer... the rest are pretty bland. I suppose the cyclops skeleton is neat. But I don't know, it feels like the first real disappointing set to me, for the first time only 25% of the set really seems worth picking up, and even less ranks as a real temptation.

I know what y'all are saying about quality - I have long championed the first 6 sets or so as by far being the best, BUT I thought this past set (Legendary Evils) looked really good out of the box. As GS says, these pics on DDMSpoilers are likely *factory rejects* and just looking at the minis, this next set seems to have some great monsters:

A large Zombie...

A mounted lightly armored human...

A corpse...

A medium goblin-on-wolf...

A few dragons, few slaadi, few undead, few demons, few bullywugs, plant, drider, snake, angel, hobgoblin, minotaur, large skeleton, goblin?

I like it!

The two dragons i'm pretty sure are just repaints of older dragons. I think gray dragon is a repaint of fang dragon. I think purple dragon is a repaint of deep dragon.

No way - the sculpt on the Gray Dragon's head has definitely never been done before.
