PLEASE HELP!!!! Question about City of Brass 2007 Necromancer Games 5 Years, 3 Months ago
Hello All,

I can not find but 1 review on amazon for this module. I am thinking of running it. My players have been playing since 1st level and are now 10th level and are on the run from teh underdark after a 5 level game of steal artifact and get trapped. My local game store has it but costly for 49.99. Does anyone have any expirience with Necromancer games? With this module? Was it written for 3.5 or 3.0? The box says 3.0 but the only PDF store that sells it (39.99) says it is a 3.5 adventure. Any ideas? Need a good planes adventure for 10 level and up and do not want to write one. Any other suggestions woudl be great but remember I need to be able to pick it up at the latest on Wednesday next week due to teh game on teh 18th. Thanks for the help.

Most of the Necro stuff is top shelf. I love their stuff, but haven't checked out CoB. It is a 3.5 city mini-setting, with a dungeon included too, IIRC. Check out the Necro Boards for more info. People over there are quite helpful, despite Necro not having released anything in a couple years.

I have it, but have not opened it.

It came out in 2007, so it must be 3.5

Retail price says $70! Box weigh a ton, so I'm sure there is lots of gaming goodness in there!

Bump. Has anyone used CoB. I am very interested in it but I'm reluctant to buy it because of the price tag.

i have it.
it is a very nice product. the box is filled to the max (one page more and it would not fit in ) - three books and a (b&w) map booklet.
book 1:extensive guide to the city of brass and the surrounding plane (pages 1-128)
book 2: adventure "tales of brass-1001 efreeti nights" (pages 129-240)
book 3: appendices: new monsters, npcs, story seeds (pages 241-430)

have not played it but what i have read looks very nice. if you want to play it on the 18th you have a lot to read.....

the designers had a big discussion topic at enworld. there you will find a lot postings/questions from people who have played it or planed to and the answers from the guys who made it - sorry no link you have to search...

hope i could help

I just got the first book. Now, I got it at an annual fire sale at the biggest hobby store in our metro, at a very large reduction. Its $25 face price, so $75 for the whole set sounds right.

Frankly, its a good buy for what Ii paid for it (under $10.) It has a great color map of the city, showing all roads and major features. It has a large number of fairly detailed maps of each area and even sub-areas. The detail provided of politics is frankly not too useful if this is a drop-in for your campaign and you don't intend your party to get involved - but ti does give the DM a lot of background.

Sub-maps key into the master map, and sometimes sub-sub-maps key into those. THe level of detail stops at buildings - few have any floorplans. There are not a lot of details at this level.

Plus: The index is very complete and useful.

Appendices:
A-Abridged list of Volcanoes (this matters here...)
B-Random encounters for the city . There are eight table,s one for each major area. Useful
C-New mnsters
D-Newmagic Items
E-New Class
F-Flora and Fauna
G-Hob Monster listings
H: New Talents
I: New Spells
J: glossary

Maps: There are two cover maps (color) and 18 B&W maps of sub areas, with some sub-sub maps. Not extremely dedtailed, but plenty good enough and still allow you freedom to innovate.

pp81-85 are suggested adventure hooks.

pp1-27 are details of history and politics.

If you are dropping this into a campaign, I'd see if I can buy just book #1. The other two books would not be necessary.

IF anybody want's them chaep, I'll see if they are still on sale. I got mine for 75% off.

I think I"d recommend the first book for a drop-in, certainly at the reduced price.

WHOA!

My 'City of Brass' is a HackMaster supplement, not Necro. first printing, 2003.
