But here's the thing It didn't Die on the Vine, Hasbro gave it to WotC to manage almost a year ago (April 1, 08) they released some sets in that time (Wave 8, the jungle, and a large set) and now they are releasing a new set that wasn't a holdover from Hasbro, and rereleasing wave 1. They are back making stuff, and from the recent search i did, Other than the first year 05, Hasbro never put out more than 2 of the Figure waves for the whole run. If WotC puts out a new wave (10?) at the end of the year they will have matched the best Hasbro did with it.
my FLGS carries this, they just switched from TRU, Wall mart and Target to a More "direct" route (like comic books direct to comic shops), as when it was at TRU it took almost a year to get the new wave in stock as the warhouse had to sell out of the old shipment first. Switching to a Direct market heck i saw wave 8 within weeks of it's release over at The Time Machine, and bought some. Last I looked they had some heroscape in stock.

I bought a set when it first came out, but as i was playing D&D and SW at the time and it was Hex i never bought back in..., well that's not true i buy figures and give the terrain away.

so I am looking forward to some new figures. (and i am kicking myself for getting rid of some of the base set figs Duh!)

Sorry for the confusion ... I was refering to the Lord of the Rings Combat Hex game. There were several players / collectors at the Time Machine (FLGS for those of you not in Connecticut) but it just fizzled out. The third set, The Return of the King, was such a reduced quantity run that it was difficult to even get in stock. Then Sabertooth put out the single figure "Path of the Dead" packs but that was a small set of the ghosts and an odd way to sell them. And I never was able to get my Witch King on Fell Beast :(

Anyway, back on topic of Heroscape. I must have missed the Jungle Set ... never heard of it or saw it. How was the terrain?

I did the opposite, kept the terrain from the earlier sets and gave (EBayed) the figures away :)

I missed out on the ice/snow set, and I've always regretted it because I think it would go great in a DF set-up, especially in Caverns or Cavernous Lake. (The tall ice peaks, I mean.)

You can usually find those tall ice/snow peak on e-bay pretty cheap....

(and yes they DO work well in cavern set-ups for the ICE effect....)

Yeah the Ice was one of the ones I got and kept some of the terrain. I always gave the hex's away but i kept the 3D stuff , and I like the Ice Columns a lot.

the Jungle looked great, I picked it up like 4 times and put it back everytime at The Time Machine, but in the end always put back, as I can get much the same effect with aquarium plants etc.

Ah yeah I remember that game, (Lord of the Rings Combat Hex game) i looked at the figs becuase they were prepainted, and I like Tolkien, never got any in the end as I think they were too big. But that Mordor Troll and I think Balrog got picked up a few times.

I really enjoyed the Sabertooth LOTR Combat Hex game. I'm a big Tolkien fan and collecting the pre-painted figs was a lot of fun. My sons and their friends used to play the combat game a lot a few years ago, but not much recently. I still have a big collection (every fig!).

I also bought Heroscape to use as 3D terrain for the LOTR game -- the scale is just right between the two games and HS uses hexes like the LOTR game. No where near the quality and polish of Dwarven Forge, but you could make some nifty battle maps and dioramas from them.

I once made a Heroscape castle for a Helm's Deep diorama. I couldn't figure out how post pictures in this thread, but maybe I'll throw them up in the cool pictures section.

The LOTR game was a blast -- a good mix of strategy, speed, and creative game design -- very sad it dwindled away when there were so many other figures and characters they could have put into the game.
