Your right Ghenghis,

It's probably my fault for fanning the flames...sometimes i bug out...I am sorry to the poor chap. Let's keep things kool, as I mentioned, in most cases it is rather the tone of the enterprise rather than the actual production itself...when I am insulted I, well...I'm a New Yorker... raised in da the inner city afterall....lol

Personnally, I have no problems with someone making complimentary or compatible module to dwarvenforge, but this is another thing to say his product is better than the original, while it is clearly not.

Ghengis,

It is even another thing to imply that Dwarven Forge is inferior because isn't hand painted is packaged with cheap styrofoam and is made of plastic. That's grounds for being roughed up medieval-style far worse than the posts here.

People don't have issues with other items, heck I have a significant investment in Hirst Arts, but those companies (Reaper, Hirst Arts, Iron Winds, Black Tree, etc. etc.) don't go out on ebay and place listings with DWARVEN FORGE in their title and claim their products are ""superior"".

"superior" is a purely subjective term.
While the seller is wrong on at least one things (isn't DF hand painted, but at the factory?), some people May think it is supperior for any number of reasons.
I don't and I'm not interested in buying it, but to load all of this hate out to someone still seems harsh. Tell them that they shouldn't use X in thier auction, and be done with it, to rant about them on the DF boards to me sinks this board into a the pits of flaming and hate that for the most part seems to pass this site by. I have for the most part not participated in this conversation, i looked at it, responded early and then lost intrest, but as the time goes on this person keeps getting nailed. If you have a problem with him please TELL HIM, and don't drag the DF boards into the muck that so many message boards get dragged into.

Ska;

You're right, and I've been wrong, and I, for one, will shut up about it too.

I think the criticism is deserved. Nobody said he should burn in hell, just that he went about marketing his product in the wrong way and ended up alienating (at least some of) his target audience. I think the below two quotes sum it up perfectly.

The funny thing is, with a different approach, he could probably be really successful. After all, it's not like the 2"x2" tile is an industry standard; it's a Dwarven Forge standard. So, he obviously knows who's the shark and who's the remora. He could have just as easily set the hyperbole aside and offered the product as a way to supplement what DF users already have (because who among us doesn't want more and more options?), and I don't think anyone would have seen it as a problem.

Ugh.

Excellent point. I would have been his target audience.

However, even if he bumbles his way to ever have something I want, I would never buy anything from this stooge.

Hi All -
I've stayed out of this thread because I didn't like the way it devolved with such negativity. Regardless of the product or the deserved criticism, GS has a valid point in citing the way the tone of this thread is so contradictory to the usual tone of these forums.

Here's the text of an e-mail I sent the poster through EBay on 2/28 when I saw this thread :

"Dear gvfantasyterrain,
Hi -
Just a friendly suggestion that you may want to rephrase your claim of being better quality than Dwarven Forge. I'm all for new products that will enhance my DF set ups but you've created some negative backlash on the Dwarven Forge Forums and I'd think that your product could cater to the DF fans rather than alienate them. Perhaps you could reference Dwarven Forge in a positive light as your inspiration and note that your product is compatible with and enhances DF.
Just a friendly suggestion to generate some goodwill rather than costing you potential customers. "

And here is his response:

"Dear myrthe,
Hi,
I see your point, and it's very astute. You're right. As the old saying goes: "you'll catch more flies with honey than vinegar." Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it!
Chris

Whether he chose to take my unsolicited advice or not was up to him, however, I think a more pro-active and fair approach was to contact him directly rather than tear him and his product down on these boards.

All of this negativity towards people who are pointing out an ebay seller who is mis representing Dwarven Forge products seems harsh and rather condescending to me. Instead of tearing down the fellow Dwarven Forge poster's opinions, I think it is more pro-active to contact them directly. Whether the critics of this ebay seller takes unsolicited advice or not is up to them.

I'm sorry you choose to take my comments that way. That was not the intent, at all.

Having a differing opinion is not condescention.

Citing the harsh tone of a thread by a universally friendly group of people is not negative.

Pointing out how I chose to address the situation with the EBayer directly is not "tearing down fellow Dwarven Forge posters' opinions".

As I said, "regardless of the product or the deserved criticism", I do believe that there are better ways to treat people. Simple as that.

But that's just my opinion. Don't fault me for voicing it when others have done the same and, please, don't attack my intentions or categorize my comments as an affront to the other people here just because I chose not to join in the waving of the torches and pitchforks ;)

Okay, everyone. We can still discuss the subject without devolving into flaming each other or the ebay seller. Let's play nice so I won't have to lock the thread.

Personally, I don't take offense at the listing, I just think that he makes false claims that makes me, as a potential customer, not want to purchase them. Which is too bad, as I really, really want a wide variety of floor tiles to spice up my "Classic" setups. I want these so much, that the day 3d solid printers become affordable, I'm buying one, rendering floor tiles, and printing them out. We had a Z-corp printer at the last job I worked at, but between the unreliability of the machine, and the horrible pastels it printed, it wasn't worth the effort.
