Hi all -

The rumor mill has been churning out a LOT of talk lately about a 2009 release of the classic Games Workshop game "SPACE HULK" !!! This was a fantastic game when it was out and people have been clamoring for a new version since it faded away 10+ years ago. I, for one, hope it happens !!

For those who aren't familiar, a "Space Hulk" is a derelict space ship. Space Marines board to investigate and find it's overrun with Genestealers (Aliens). The first edition had a great time-limit rule that added to the frantic, against-the-clock excitement of the game. Another cool aspect of the game was the way the marine "scanners" worked. Radar "disks" (cardstock chits) were used to represent Genestealer locations on the map but you never knew for sure. When you were in sight, you would flip the chit over and it would indicate either a false read (no Stealers) or reveal a number for you to fight - from a lone Stealer to a Swarm of many !!

Aside from the rules with scenarios and dice, the game came with plastic models for each force as well as printed card stock room and corridor tiles.

Space Hulk is a great, fast-n-furious game and it's release may just be a boon to the DF Sci Fi line. I know it's release will shatter my resolve to "ONLY" stick with the DF Dungeons, Caverns, Cavernous Lakes and Rivers, DOE, MBS, and ROTA :)

Don't know if you have seen it, but if not, I will try to make your mouth water even a little more:

www.dwarvenforge.com/dwarvenforums/viewtopic.php?id=2017
www.dwarvenforge.com/dwarvenforums/viewtopic.php?id=2661

Anyhow I think some words of warning are needed:

1. The arms of the new Genestealer models have gotten that big and long that the models don't fit well into the DF corridors anymore. You can actually see that on the third picture of the first link above that the Genestealer is standing somehow "twisted" in the corridor.

2. The new Terminator models are delivered with 40mm bases which are *way* too large. Solution: Order modelled Sci-Fi 30mm bases for them. There are some companies that offer such beasts and the new termies fit wonderful onto them.

bye

Space hulk rocked, too bad my version was lost in transit to Germany years ago. I look on e-bay and that old game sells for $300. I would love to get the new version. That stinks they over sized the minis for it that it makes it tough to use DF Sci-Fi corridors. I would probably just re-base them to fit in DF.

Thanks for the sweet pictures and the info, Wolfgang.

I didn't realize that about the size issue.

Smaller bases are definitely in order. I saw plastic tech-deck bases online a while ago that would be perfect ... time to do some scouting to see if I can find them again.

Rustyblade, sorry to hear your Space Hulk was lost in the warp ... er, the move. While I've never lost any of my games or hobby items, I've had plenty damaged by movers even if the boxes are labelled "Fragile Crystal" !! Now I only trust myself to move my preciouses ;-)

Ebay is a great resource but I'm thankful that I already have some of the expensive "classics" like Space Hulk and Warhammer Quest. I don't think I could ever part with them no matter how high the going rate got.

Yeah I was really bummed when my Space Hulk and a few other games in a packed box never made it. That was a long time ago, I pretty much don't need it, since I have downloaded the rules tiles and long ago from the net. I really loved that game.

Hey check out his stop animation video. I believe it's DF Sci-fi line as the back drop.

Hi all -
Sorry for the "Thread Necro" but ....

Games Workshop has announced that SPACE HULK is up for pre-order. It's due Spet 5th and is a "limited" one-time print run. How limited, I'm not sure.

Go check out the site and the amazing models ...

www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat180018a&prodId=prod210009a

There are some great "Alien-esque" poses to the Genestealers and the Space Marines are all dynamically sculpted. The Librarian and Sergeant are fantastic !! And the "objective" model of the dead marine seated in a throne is too cool !!!

I got confirmation when I placed my order that they are, indeed, 40K scale. Looking at the bases, I wonder if they will be "bendy" green army men plastic. God, I hope not !!!

Great models. Unfortunately no plastic floors and walls, which is the only thing that would have changed this from a nice boardgame release to something which would enable really cool gaming tables.
