Question for the dudes up in Canada (and anywhere else for that matter) about the Wilderlands setting.....

I'm thinking of running something in this setting after my Ptolus campaign is done and I was wondering what other published materials people use (besides the boxed campaign setting and City State from Necromancer) and what you think of it.

Thanks!

The WoHF Boxed Set (Necro) is easily the most crucial. The level of detail in the setting is amazing. I use it and the PDF version all the time. Having the PDF for searching is killer.

The Players Guide to the Wilderlands (Necro) is great, especially if you're running 3.x (for rules/races/gods/etc). I don't use it too often for planning now, but occaisionally.

I haven't run anything in the City State of the Invincible Overlord, but do have the PDF, and know that it is awesome.

I've used some of the old 1st edition Judges Guild modules just for the fluff. Mines of Custalcon and Witches Court Marshes are the two I've used. Both awesome. The area north of the CSIO is so well threshed out. Necro has a download for Rorystone Road, which lightly details the area north of the City State. I've used it, but it mostly gives you the boxed set info, so it's not super crucial.

The new edition of Fight On! (an old school D&D fanzine) has an awesome chapter by Robert Conley (a contributor on the Boxed Set) on The Wild North, a new region which is directly north of Valon (the top middle map in the boxed set). The issue also has a medium sized chapter by James Mishler on Haghill, another town around Rorystone Road.

That is my experience with Judges Guild/Wilderlands adventures/products. There are so many 1st ed. modules out there for it it's amazing. James Mishler of Adventure Games Publishing has compiled a list of all the adventures/products and a map with all of them on it. A quick search turned up nothing, but I could email it to you, if you can't find it.

Also, there's a PDF collection of:

WoHF Boxed Set
Players Guide to the WL
CSIO
Caverns of Thracia (3.5)

for $60, I think, easily worth the money for how much awesome material that is. I've gotten my money's worth out of it, for sure.

There's also a lot of awesome fan material on the Necro site. Gabor Lux's rendering of the town of Zothay is awesome. Top shelf stuff.

City State of the Invincible Overlord and the rest of the Judges Guild series was classic stuff. Glad to see Necromancer Games has picked it up for 3.x.

In the spirit of the setting I rolled randomly to decide where to start my 4E game. I couldn't have asked for a better place. There was a village with 2 rival silver mining gangs of former convicts, an evil wizard running the show, and a pirate captain in cahoots with the evil wizard. I had so many ideas brewing that the village of Harpstring just sprang full grown to life.

The entries in the boxed set outline important NPCs, and usually have a plot hook or 2 thrown in.

I gave up on my homebrew setting b/c the work was just too much, whereas now I can flip through the boxed set to the town entry as the characters make their way to new regions. If your players are used to being in one town where all the adventures are railroaded to them (or vice vera) they might find it strange, but if they like to feel like they are the masters of their characters destiny then they will love the Wilderlands.

The Necro boards are full of WL experts who can answer almost any question too. I was exclaiming how much I loved Harpstring and Robert Conley came on board to say that he wrote it. Brilliant. There's also an awesome resource for old JG products here... www.acaeum.com/jg/

My character is destined to find 2 ancient A-bombs. One for Harpspring, one for Valon. *spits*

OK!

Went a little overboard with this (as I am wont to do - just look at my DF collection!) on e-bay......I did some research and it seems there were 5 "Wilderness" books that fleshed out & detailed numerous hexes on maps 1 (and a bit on 6). They were:

Mines of Custalcon
Spies of Lightelf
Shield Maidens of Sea Rune
Pirates of Hagrost
Witches Court Marshes

Each one details 22 different 5 mile hexes.

Now I really DO have more Wilderlands stuff that I could possibly use, but it feels good to have it and explore it and start thinking about my next campaign.

Thanks again guys!
