When there was no updates on the latest HorrorClix set (Nightmares) even after it had been released I kind of figured that something was amiss... So who's picking up the games? Or will they die off quietly?

Not sure, there is nothing they do anymore i care about, they killed off any chance of me caring by the choices they made.
they say the lines will continue...
Upon notifying our partners, Topps will immediately pursue strategic alternatives so that viable brands and properties, including HeroClix, can continue without noticeable disruption. To that end, WizKids will continue supporting Buy it By the Brick redemptions for Arkham Asylum, and the December Organized Play events for HeroClix.

I've got to say that is very sad for me to see this end coming, because, although is true that I don't play clix games anymore, this is the company that, with Mage Knight and Mage Knight Dungeons, brought me back to the hobbie after so many years without playing, and eventually ended with me here, in the Forge.

It was a shame when strange things started to happen to Mage Knight after Topps bought wizkids, and I finally abandoned it. But at least there was all the heroclix for the young (and not so young) kids, and I've used it with my little nephews to get them "on the vice department ;P", along with Heroquest.

What would it have been if Topps hadn't acquired Wizkids I can't tell, but I surely wonder.

Greetings, and rest in peace wizkids!

That is really amazing, even if it isn't quite shocking. Nobody thought WK was top of the heap anymore, hasn't been in years, but still -- the shelf-life for these things seems to be so small. I mean, this company not only brought D&D back with MK, it also had huge hits with Heroclix AND the pirates game. Plus, the MW game started big, even though they drove that one into the ground prematurely. Still, to have four separate hits like that, and STILL not be able to make it...

Makes me worry for the hobby in the current downtime. I hope DF makes it through! May be time to scale back a bit, Stefan! We can wait!

"Scale back" on what? It's been a VERY quiet DF year as it is ;)

Without new product a company becomes stagnant. A stagnant company, especially a niche one, means stagnant sales which, as we've all seen, ends poorly in a poor economy. Sadly, the ROTA and ABS2 sets are delayed and will miss the key Chiristmas Season.

These global economic woes are forcing individuals and companies to make very difficult decisions. Individuals can no longer afford to purchase product. Companies are forced to restructure their operations or shut their doors. In order to survive, everyone (from the individual to the corporation) is forced to think "outside the box", suspend the "business as usual" mentality and find creative ways to stretch their dollars and maximize their business.

Previous comments from Stefan and Jeff make it clear that, even before this global recession, Dwarven Forge walked a fine line of viability. Ultimately, their passion will be the key to see them through this. DF has never been in the business as a business, per se. Their business model and vision have kept them what they are ... sometimes to our frustration for the lack of releases and restocks but, thankfully, they are not slaves to share holders and distributors. They will always have my support even if they have less of my money.

I, too, desperately hope that DF makes it through the storm. They have been a constant in my hobby life from their first Master Maze Set !!

Sorry for the ramble. I'm just passionate about Dwarven Forge, the people behind it, and the community that loves it. I'd hate to see this gem get crushed.

I'm not so sure ROTA will suffer from not being out by Christmas.

While this is purely anecdotal, it may apply to others. In my experience something that is bought for Christmas but has not shown up yet is perfectly acceptable. You just have an envelope with a picture of the item in it. I think plenty of people will be getting ROTA for Christmas, just not receiving it until after.

As a DF customer for (I think) almost 10 years (certainly for 8!), I can agree with Celtchief; I've gotten more than one DF Christmas picture, and eagerly awaited the arrival of the big brown UPS box! Also for birthdays, Memorial Days, Veteran's Day, July 4th, and a lot of OTHER Holidays when Sandy and her family got together and bought me something (or I just ordered it myself, because I was too eager to wait!) from the folks in the Magic Cave. And Better Late Than Never has become a catchphrase around the Mad Yank household.
Unless the economy goes so belly-up that the majority of the country is scrambling for the next meal on a consistent basis, folks like DF WILL survive - smaller, less production, less new products, longer lead times - but they will survive. The arts suffer, but they always survive.
And make no mistake; as we all know, Stefan IS an artist, and Jeff is his agent to our world.
