I think the whole thing is bunk. WotC making miniature style scenery- Bah! hum-bug!
WotC already makes cheap cardboard Dungeon tiles.

I don't know RustyB, they Could already have made some. Remember back when deamon web was comming out, they mentioned that it would have the first of some Items, "This figure marks a departure from previous creatures. Most of the miniatures have represented monsters, but this set has a new class -- objects. The Deathcap mushroom follows the Living Flaming Sphere and Animated Statue as miniatures that have an increased usefulness in the roleplaying game. There are a lot of options -- general dungeon dressing is the most immediate use". They ended up with the death cap (still don't got non), the Sacrcophagus, and the Trap. So if there were any items that they may have done for Feywild, they might kind of have to put out at least one pack of the 3-4 figures that were developed already, or take a bath on those figures.
And while the card board tiles are ok, they just don't pop, if you use them and but a 3D item on it they just come so much more to like. That's how i got into DF in the first place. I got a number of the accesory packs, tables, chairs, torches, barrles etc to use as 3D scenery on our Chessex mat. drawing in a "bench" just wasn't the same as putting in a physical one down on the map next to the wall.

So this might actually have a need to make it be made (they may have product already produced that was to go in up comming sets) and since they are marketing toward RPG players now, this is something that has been wanted by them for some time. I can remember the requests that have been around since harbinger by people to put out Terrain, people wanted tables, and such, but was poo-pooed on by skimirshers, and at the time i agreed with them, who would really like to Pull a second or Third table instead of a Beholder or dragon, espically as it was trying to target more than RPG'ers. Add in the fact it's now non blind, and you can put out a set off terrain. And throw in the tiles you mention and they can have [i]instant [i] synergy. They make an alter, or a Armored statue, if it matches the one already on the Tiles they can then be matched exatly over the picture on the tile and it just brings the environment pictured on the tiles to life, and they already can have part of the design done... look at tile, make items that match tiles.

But that's just me trying go figure out how they could do it, i have no clue if they will, but darn i'd love it if they did. I'd buy a TON if they actually managed to do it for the SW line as well, becuase heres the kicker, they have the ability to produce Star Wars specific items (as they got the rights already, So they can make stuff that isn't generic! I would not trash my generics, but i'd love to expand with things that belong well just my crazy rambles before bed.

Hello All,

I really do not know anything but last night on some blogs I did read that WOTC maybe creating a dungeon system. It will be plastic, although durable, still plastic. I for one will stick with my DF.

Interesting. WK tried this and failed, so I don't know how big the market is. Seems to me that WOTC is trying to change the market rather than respond to it -- if anyone could do it, in my (biased) mind, D&D could do it. Still, it feels like most gamers are not as interested in terrain as they are in figures.

Shadox source us man, not that i doubt you, but would like to read the article.

L, i agree with you, i think many are more interested in figures, but i do remember request for it on the WotC boards from Harbinger, and while i really don't frequent the DDM boards often any more, when i was there it seemed to come up from time to time. While not everyone is interested in it, i think there are enough that want it that that it could work, and if it is made there are people who will buy it.

I think (don't take this the wrong way) you painters tend to underestimate how much many of those of us who don't like to paint, really don't like to paint. I have the cash and the time to if i wanted to buy loads of Grendel, Anisty, make HA stuff, or by some of MegaMinis scenery but i just almost never do becuase i just REALLY hate to paint. The only stuff i tend to paint is stuff i have made my self, and then it's becuase i kind of have to and it's a scence of i made it, so i want it to look good, stuff i buy i'm less invesed in.

Example, i am contemplating making the Storage/shelves from the Jedi Library for something (partly becuase i want them) other reason for a session i may run, and i am going to try to sculpt it my self, and then paint it... i'll do it becuase i have no other choice, it is such a distinct object it just doesn't exsist out there... but i've had this idea for about 2 weeks now, and haven't moved on it at all becuase i am not looking forward to the whole task, in the end i may just make then out of card stock it might be easier... 9and you know i think i may just go and work on that now while my DNA is drying.)

I'd buy metal but i don't like the weight and fragility of some of it (more so with figures than scenery on the bend then break weapons) and i don't like to paint, i still have Anisty i bought like 4-5 years ago unpainted.

Add in what i think is a cool idea of making the scenery to match the tiles and it could be a draw for RPG players, with instant definition of an area. (well i think it would be a good idea for product synergy to make any 3D plastic elements to look like what is on the 2D tiles if just for consistancey and maybe saving a tiny bit on design, you already no the basics of what it will look like so all you got left is to make it look cool).

I love my metal minis but my gawd--I have SO many unpainted minis! I would welcome some really nicely sculpted and painted plastics to help out where I need multiples or unique items. Never gonna' give up my metal (till I'm too old and infirm) but I'm all for innovation and ingenuity.

If WotC wants to make scenery bits or accessories, even whole dungeons, I say it's brilliant and it's long, long overdue.

Oh yeah--NOT going to give up my Dwarven Forge stuff either! ;-}~

My thoughts Exactly!

Also Ganghis, Demonweb wasn't really the first time they made dungeon items, such as Sarcophagus, Mushroom Death Cap and scythe-jaw. Desert of Desolation set had an Animated Statue which in my mind is in the same category, which i know you mentioned but all these objects still double as monsters. I don't see them making animated table or animated candle stick holder albeit would be cool and I hope they do make more items like barrels and crates and treasure chest, etc. However, until we see sources its all just sewing circle chatter. ;)

I could have sworn that the 3.5 MM Did have stats for an animated table... I think they used it as the example of an Animated Object, Large. So you never know they might actually have a "reason" to make an animated table, that doubles as a monster and terrain :D ...

I was more trying to provide possible evidence from the quote from one of the Demonweb previews, where Peter Lee was saying was that it's the first time for Objects, the Stautue was a construct i think. This was a new class of items, (that like the statue could double as terrain or something in a game) i was just musing that well if they were planing on expanding that object type with Feywild, they may have "objects" they have to do something with, it's pure speculation, but it's within the bounds of there actually could be very solid reason that they have to put out a line, as they have objects already with nothing else to do with them.

With 3 in the last set, and the new hero packs with three figs, this falls into the new style range of how they are doing things, so if they had three designed and in prodcution. They could just release the three they made as " Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures -- Object Pack (1)" like the Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures -- Martial Heroes 1 and if it sells make more if not, go
ok didn't work but we got rid of the Fey Alter, (gives +2 to hit to creatures with the Fey subtype), the Barrell of healing ( a living unit adjacent to this object who makes no attacks can instead heal 5 points of damage) and the Animated Table so at least we got rid of them
Jsut palying wih crazy stats :)

I'm all for it (more scenery and terrain pieces) - from nearly whatever source (as long as they do it up decently). I too have gobs of unpainted minis - in fact I still have Grenadier, Citedel, Ral Partha, Heritage and such from the early 80s I haven't painted - some still in blisters,,,(and I keep buying more! lol). I love to paint...but I don't always have the time - nor am I very good at it unfortunatly (OK I guess but certainly no expert - I paint basic playable pieces...)...I also like the pre-painted and they have certainly come in handy to supplement the minis I have painted. What I really could use more of though - are scenery pieces - and in particular now - Oriental (Jpanese/Chinese and related) as I am shortly going to open up a whole world section along these lines and have very little in terms of scenics...(mostly a few aquarium pieces). I'm considering scratchbuilding my own...but again - I'm not at all experienced doing so...and I hardly have the time to paint my minis - let alone build Pagodas, temples and Samarai castles...as much as I'd like to...

I really would not mind a cheap " fair looking " plastic 3D Dungeon but if it is WOTC they will probably change the scale after a year and a half and say it is good for you. Pass.

Really though since it is nearly June I think it was just someone teasing or they ran into more complications and profit demanding than they usually do.
