The Legend of Drizzt Omnibus 5 Years, 11 Months ago
Hi All -

This may be old news to many of you but I can't be the only one to arrive late to the party. I was only introduced to the character of Drizzt, the heroic Dark Elf, a few years ago when I read "Homeland" - he was actually introduced to the Forgotten Realms world almost 20 years ago.

That was a great start for me as it detailed Drizzt's early years - something R.A. Salvatore only went back and developed after the character became so popular. "Homeland" was followed by "Exile" and "Sojourn" and made for a fantastic (IMO) trilogy.

Anyway, when I really enjoy a book (or series of them) my mind always seems to drift into a "this would make a great graphic novel" thought.

Well, Devil's Due Publishing did just that and released the Omnibus in 2007. It compiles all the individual books into one beautifully illustrated, high-quality, hardcover volume ($50) and they did an excellent job of adapting the printed story to an illustrated format. It even includes portfolio pages of development sketches and various illustrations. Very nicely done.

So, that's my 2 cents. It's out there if you're interested. I was pleasantly surprised to see it on the shelf at Borders.

Fair winds -

Cool - I think I'll check it out. I have always enjoyed those first 6 Drizzt books (the ones you mention and the first trilogy-Icewind Dale story arc).

Got a link for that? I can't find it on their website....

Thanks!

It's "Forgotten Realms: The Legend of Drizzt Omnibus" with R.A. Salvatore's name on the cover.

Dust cover flap indicates that Cover Painting was by Todd Lockwood, Jacket Design by Sean K. Dove, Comic Writing by Andrew Dabb and Illustrations by Tim Seely.

ISBN 978-1-932796-66-7

I hope that helps. I'll e-mail you some pics I took, too.

Guys,

I have been collecting the graphic novels for each of th ebooks. There are 6 graphic novels out for Drizzt that leads upto and includes the story of hte halflingj's GEM. Those that read the books will know. They are also doing 3 more graphic novels to follow the legend of Drizzt stories. They are working on teh dragonlance books also adapting them to graphic novels. They have the first 3 done. I have not collected the dragonlance ones but the art in the drizzt ones is fantastic. The artists that did those are also doing the Wheel of Time first book also but not for the same publisher I think??? Anyway great books great art, a must have. When I get home in a few days I can post the isbn numbers.

FYI... If you are looking for a good Read Read the Wheel of Time Series. It often gets put down due to it's length but it is a good series. The author, Robery Jordan has passed away and the series will be completed from his notes by another auther Brandon Sanderson. Great Series.

Thanks, Shadox !!

I figured there were individual books since an "Omnibus" is a collection of books but I've never seen them - or knew to look for them. Now I'm looking forward to the next ones.

And I really enjoyed the Dragonlance novels when they came out so I might have to pick that one up, too. I used to collect the comic books way back when and still have them somewhere (along with the AD&D ones).

I've always preferred the Graphic Novel format over the serial comics because I can't stand to wait for the next installment.

Just like I'll never buy a single book in a series unless they are all available. Ran into that lag BIG TIME when I started the Wheel of Time. Absolutely hated the long delays between books, the appearance of being "paid by the word" and the slow story progression. It is sad that Jordan won't be able to finish his epic himself.

Here they are

#1 Homeland ISBN: 1-932796-40-1
#2 Exile ISBN: 1-932796-46-0
#3 Sojourn ISBN: 1-932796-57-6
#4 The Crystal Shard ISBN: 1-932796-76-2

The other good series is the World of Dungeons and Dragons. I have not started to collect it but many of my friends say it is fantastic. My local FLGS is sadly not carrying them.
