Oh, man, that brings me back !!!!

You know, I was destined to love wargames (Marines vs. Tyranids) and movies (Starship Troopers) ...

I always used the Cooties as aliens for my green army men to fight (and blow into pieces) !!!

Thanks for the trip in the "Way-Back Machine" :)

Aw, yeah. That's it. *sigh*

This is definitely one of the strangest sets they've done. It has some truly terrible figures, and some really great ones. I'm beginning to understand why there has been such a divide in people's respones to it.

I mean, the Cootie, the Grinning Lunatic carrion crawler, there are some bad figures there. And the ice devil, the storm giant... disappointing. But then I see figs like the earth titan, the fire titan, the blazing skeleton, the deathpriest, the lurking wraith, the tomebound arcanist... they're just fantastic. The arcanist is one of the best human mage figures they've ever done. The fire titan is just outrageously great. The white dragon, too.

So, yeah, I can see why people were trashing the set, but there's just too much goodness here for me to disregard it.

Hopefully I can get my camera software up and running again, and get some pics up of some of my repaints and conversions.

I just got my Uncommon Set in the mail, The Golden Wyvern initiate is a Great mini, i have the fealing i will be ordering a bunch of singles of that and the Death Priest. I was trying to figure out what to use for the Sith Force Spirit comming up in the next game or so, the Lurking Wraith is going to be Darth Riven and i think he will so a very good job of it.

I got to say the uncommons are really good, even some of the ones i wasn't interested in, bugbear, cave bear etc were rather nice suprises, however the paint job on my Bugbear is horrific, lots of spill over, silver hands, silver on the bicepts, flesh on the belt. It's a decent mini but bad paint. I am debating buying a booster or too to get a hug, a rarem and a few commons, but i guess i will have to wiat and see the price this weekend.

Hey, don't get me wrong, a number of the figures look like excellent sculpts. I'd love to have the bugbear in metal for painting.

Hey, Shad, are you kidding? The Giant Celestial Beetle was great! I remember in the old days when Giant Insect was a neat and versatile spell. Enlarging a flea gave you a great mount, though hanging on when it made a jump could be pretty tough, and you didn't want them giant-sized when they got hungry.

i share 2 booster case boxes with green knight and havent got around to pick them up@dragonworld(the cheapest in town). we even meet to open them up - each of us one booster at a time and commenting each pull- wich is a nice and fun tradition allready. as i like the ddm very much - for rpg only- and i am not really good at waiting i droped into the other flgs in town and got 1 booster for me:

Tiefling gladiator - i do not like the new style and the paintjob is bad
Eladrin Pyromancer - nice npc elf magic user
1 guy with the wrong statcard - works nicely as npc babarian
orc zombie - wellcome addition to my undead party
ochre jelly - nice but simple
hellwasp - its a bit too big and the wings are to small but i really like it
gnaw demon - he is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
elder red - nice mini, good pose but strange paint job - some dark ink should make him almost perfect

looking foreward to the following:
Ice devil
Efreeti
Devourer
Cyclone
Yuan-Ti
Shadow Hulk
Xorn
Bear
Cockatrice
Roper
Elder White
camoudragon
Orc

Since the Hellwasp is an Uncommon i got one, and yeah they could have done a much cooler pose of this thing.

If anyone has seen the Dr. Who episode Wasp and the Unicorn i think you can get my idea.
Vespa Form

Instead of having the walkingor more apt just standinf, put it in a much more dynamic position.
Wizkids did it with something, just have it up right in flight, with a clear pole sticking out of it and it's stinger pointing out. It would have made a better pose, would have fit on the darn base, (or not hung over on end and front,) and been way cooler.

I think that would be great -- but even as it "stands" (as it were), I think this would be a much, much cooler mini if it were small or, better yet, tiny. I mean, even with the current pose and even with the current freaking ugly paintjob, I think having five or six of these guys, as tiny mounted figures a la the stirge, would be awesome.

Of course, even better would be having five or six the way you've described them... Ah well. They went with Cooties, instead.

I just got a bunch from the latest set.

The earth titans are great. Really great. I got two and I kind of wish I had four.

The chain golem is OK but needs some repainting.

The shadow hulk looked a lot better in the photo. I'll still use it, perhaps as a construct made to look like an umber hulk.

The deathpriest and degenerate cultist of Orcus are pretty cool, partcularly the deathpriest. Nice paint job for a WotC human.

The xorn ravager is good, but man do I have a ridiculous number of xorn minis now.

The death titan will make a good stone giant with some kind of class levels.

The fire giant and fire titan are good, but not as good as I'd hoped.

The ropers will be great when I paint them to look like DF stalagmites.

Ochre jellies are great.

The firebats are one of my favorite monsters (thanks to Ghost Tower of Inverness). I was surprised at how rubbery they are, though.

The thunderblast cyclone that I got is painted terrible. I'm pretty disappointed with it.

The cave bears are great, as are the gnaw demons.

Overall, I agree with those saying that the quality is going down overall. I'm also reaching a saturation point for these figures. I think the amount I buy is going to start decreasing pretty drastically.
