Reaper have posted pictures of the production copies. I think most of them they look ok if you compare them with D&D Minis.

I'd say it's about what should be expected -- the best D&D minis look better than this, the bulk of D&D minis (taking commons into account) probably look worse or about the same.

I'm a little disappointed that, after SO long a wait and such a botched handling of this line, they're only releasing a SAMPLE of what they pictured months ago -- no Marilith yet, no flying demon chippie, no ettin. Still, I'm REALLY happy we're getting the purple worm and the mind flayer. I'll definitely grab them, but it does NOT look like this is going to silence the critics. Given how long we waited, and how poorly the first set was received, this is not enough figures and not well done enough to give backers of the line any real vindication for their support.

A shame, really. I wanted this line to work, but it seems like it's going to be a footnote...

On a Side note, it is 1 Year from the first release of LE, Aug 6th was the release date back in 2007...

So a Year later thoughts?
Does P65 make you think LE is dead, as they have put out two new lines with no further movement on LE, and will likely have a Third! new line if this whole Reich of the Dead thing is finished up. And the line that came out two months ago, Chronoscope, so far has almost as many figures releases with 15 to LE's 17, and Previewed 22 in Chrono, to LE's 24/5 (cant' remember off the top of my head) basically saying LE's is Reapers junk line...? Or anyone think Reaper can pull LE out of the toilet....

I still think Reaper could "save" LE if they really wanted to -- there's still a market for prepainted figures, after all, and Reaper has a huge library of great sculpts to work with. I don't think consumers are so fickle as to walk away from some really great product just because it bears some association with a line that had an ugly, delayed debut.

But I don't think they really want to. They seem happy to accept that poor sales indicate lack of interest rather than poor execution, and they're success with metal figures has them more confident about branching out in metal than in expanding into plastic.

A lot of people said Reaper was showing a "me, too!" mentality with LE, and I think lines like Chronoscope hint at truth in that. Reaper doesn't seem to have had any real inspiration or commitment to plastics, but with Chronoscope they've shown what they can do when they really do care, and really do have an idea. They seem far more comfortable producing different kinds of metal figures than with giving the market more of what it already has a ton of (plastics).

I still think it's a shame. I love the last wave of LE, and I love the pics of what was (is?) to come. I love the Reaper "archive" of sculpts, and I'd have loved to see more.

Ah well.

Well Reaper may have heard the complaints/comments from people that they have botched the line, becuase they recently announced that they are doing a Major restructure of LE. I also wonder if this is partly due to WotC changes to do Non Random and Semi Random.
Future releases:

Ed has just passed the LE line off to me to manage and I must say, I am very excited about it! I've recruited Ron (he manages all of the metal release as far as what is being sculpted) to help me get the line on track. Between the two of us, I think we can do some great things.

My first goal is to get us on track for regular, smaller releases. Each new release is a significant investment for us. So by doing, say, 4 new pieces every other month will allow us to have something new coming out regularly. It will also create a smaller investment to bite off and this should help get the whole cyclic engine going. We will be scrapping the web page as it is now and modifying it shortly. All of the prototype pieces that are pictured there, that we have not ordered yet, will come down and be reconsidered later.

The next goal is to set up a reordering system to insure a minimal amount of delay, if any, between outages. We have an MOQ we must meet so each reorder is a significant investment for us too. If I can get the engine generating consistent moneys then it will all fall into place.

I'm going to try to get the first round to China by the end of this month (looking more like the middle of Jan at this point). It takes about 3-4 months after that to get the final production to our dock. Then, while the first batch is in their hands, I hope to send something to China every other month until we can get a pattern going strong. Once the engine is tuned, I will move to every month if it is justified. The first year or so will help me work out the logistics of ordering and reordering so I can get procedures and policies in place.

We are also working on larger sized blister cards, about 8.5"x5.5" (or 1/2 of a piece of paper) and an 8.5 x 11 card, so we can do some larger models like giants and bigger dragons. They won't be as heavy as metal so we shouldn't have the problem of blisters falling off of the cards like we had to solve with the metal minis.

If we do these cards, the larger pieces will be "outside" the regular schedule of every other month. As a result, their will hopefully be more frequent releases then once every other month anyway. We have a few ideas for the bigger pieces that we will start with, but I'm not going to say anything about what that will be yet. I can tell you that we will be able to do some bigger stuff that would be way to expensive in metal, making the big stuff potentially a lot of fun and unique to the LE line.

One of my snags will be having to use China for other product lines taking away from my budget, but I’ll cross that bridge as I approach it.

We will just have to see what happens, but this is my hope for the line's future.

One of the things i saw and thoguht was interesting, and made me thing goosh i hope it means Townsfolk, one of the most requested things in the what do you want to see thread, was.

We will be scrapping the web page as it is now and modifying it shortly. All of the prototype pieces that are pictured there, that we have not ordered yet, will come down and be reconsidered later.
So it seems that perhaps out of the Female Demon, Gnoll Archer, Gnoll Fighter, Mummy, Succubus, War Dog, Dwarf Warrior, Goblins, and Kobolds if they haven't been ordered in Wave 3 they likely aren't getting done for a while. They did 9 in the first wave, 8 in the second, so there are 14 or 9 depending on how you count, so some may not have been done, but it looks like they are FINALLY moving on this line.

Wow! I consider this very good news. I'd hate to think that the line fared so poorly because the person in charge didn't know what he was doing, but maybe Reaper thought so. It sounds like they've got good plans (and I really love the idea of getting larger plastic figures -- I've really come to favor plastics, as my collection is so large, they're much easier to store in mass amounts)

This is interesting news and the lackluster leadership on this goes back to my original comments that they went into this too hastily with no real plan.

My wild guess for the first four are translucent elementals. The metal Reaper elemental sculpts are pretty good and would look nice in if done up correc...tly.

However, I'd prefer a townsfolk pack first... things that DDM have not really pursued, and most of us haven't spent the time painting up...

I went back looking to see what the most recent post on the LE line was and this was the first one i ran across, which should now be Reaper's pre-pained minis, nearly 2 years later.

I just happened to go over and see what was up, haven't looked at reaper since the new year, where they mentioned they were working on things see post #17, and since March should be the other month when you might expect to see movement on the line, i poped in to see the state of LE, and well Reaper is still slowly releasing nothing...

Ok, I wasn't abel to get this going as fast as I had hoped. There are a lot of logistics involved with this whole process. Since it isn't done in house, there is a lot of up front work that has to be done and not enough time to do it!

Anyhoo,

We have the next lot ready to go over for a quote, now we just have to snap the photos and write up the paperwork. Ed has been out of the office this week, so we hope to get r done next week.

I doubt if we will show previews of upcoming figs until we actually get a quote and place the order. Once this occurs, I will try to get previews up ASAP. We have discovered that what we send over is not always "doable" so there is no point in getting your hopes up for something until we know for sure we are going to order it.

I can tell you, part of getting ready was selecting the first 100 minis or so that we are thinking of doing in plastic. This will help us keep things moving forward at a steady pace (I hope!).

It is still my goal to offer 4-6 new pieces, every other month, from the next release forward. It's just getting the first one going! Eee-gads!

We are doing our best on this end!

So in 6 months when they release wave 3, then (maybe if you believe what they say) maybe there will be 3 new ones in in months. It's Reaper I doubt it, by thier own admission and "soonTM" they can't keep a scheduale so i doubt we will see any this year.
