Well, I forgave the painting limitations and limited selection, but if there's one thing a consumer w@#$e like me can't stand, it's a company that fails to PUT. OUT. PRODUCT. Reaper lost a LOT of points by getting this stuff out months late, and more by taking forever to put out a second wave, and still more by re-releasing the figures for that wave, and still MORE by failing to give us ANY new figures after all this time, nearly a full year after what was SUPPOSED to be the beginning of this line.

That said, credit where credit is due -- I picked up the repainted skeletons today, and I have to say, they look pretty amazing. People are gonna quarrel about which is the best wash to use on skeletons, brown or black, and while I didn't have a problem with the brownish yellow tinge to the original releases, the new figures do look pretty snazzy. More importantly, though, the new figures got a splash of color with cooler shields, and a neat Roman feel to them. They just "pop" in a way they didn't before, and I'm happy with them. I picked up two three-packs each of the swordsmen and the spearmen, and I dig 'em. Very nice stuff.

HEhehe, i wonder if it is a North East USA thing, becuase i earlier today (11:22) put up a slightly more annoyed post on the Reaper Forums about the same subject... i guess from thier "release" page it says wave two is now out, after only 8 months of waiting since wave 1, so we have had 18 minis in 9 months give or take... big deal, i scored over 100 from Wotc in the same time, and yeah they weren't blind (bought what i wanted secondary). If they are every going to get my $ they have to actually put some darn minis out.

And what triggered this whole rant on my part on the reaper forum, was the fact as i was gearing up for my SW game tommorrow night, i was going through a box of random figs, and i found a bunch of Reaper i had bought over the years unpainted. I said to myself i like the look of these but i just can't spend the time to pain them.

While i really like the look of Chronoscope, i was getting together 6 swoop gang members, 9 Nemodians, a Devronian 6 Human thugs, 12 Gammorreans, 3 random Bounty Hunters, 3 Qurrans, a Protocol Droid, a Trandoshian, a Rodian, some Twi'lek slaves, a wookie, and oh Yeah a Hutt and what ever else sparked my intrest for Tommorrows season where the players go visit a Hutt Crimelord... If i were to try to get almost any of those ready for my game from Chronoscope it would take forever to paint them up, and they would weight a ton to bring to the game, that's 50 or so minis... Give me Pre-painted anyday!

I remember a thread here about Reaper a year ago that I mentioned that their entrance into pre-painted minis seemed to me to be hasty and a knee-jerk reaction rather than a well thought out product release. I haven't seen them make a dent yet on the DDM market in my neck of the woods.

However, some of their metal releases this year have been awesome.

Yes, Legendary Encounters has been anything BUT "Legendary". I've been completely underwhelmed and haven't even bothered to buy even one of them yet. As it stands now (IMO), it's a sickly little offshoot that isn't bearing any fruit.

Reaper needs to focus on introducing things not currently available for pennies (D&D commons on Ebay). I've said it before, and I'll say it again ... if keeping with their existing metal sculpts is a cost effective priority for them, then they should produce their TOWNSPEOPLE in the pre-painted Legendary Encounters line. Those along with some of their TREASURE ITEMS would be great and fast sellers to boost the line to where they could do more with it.

I, for one, have hardly any time to paint and, when I do, I'd rather devote it to painting a focus figure (Hero, Antihero, Boss Monster) than any town beggar or peasant children.

From last i heard Wave two Actually wasn't even out yet, it was still shipping to them from china.
So since Aug of last year they have put out a total of like 18 minis in 9 months.
I at this point don't care about the line, i doubt i will ever get anything from it. The FLGS don't really carry it (there isn't really anything to carry), and if i am going to order/have something ordered i'll just go online and get what i want.
The recent DoD release from Wotc while not spectaluar, had some nice minis and some fugly ones. I will at this point pick up the ones i want singles of and be done with it. (Didnt' get a Bulette!)
But they are at least putting something out, even if i don't love all the minis, it's a figure i can use.
We ended up using the Garg Black last week, becuase well the base was the right size, and it was of the intimidating look we needed, i want something to represnt the creature, i don't need a fine paint job, or a perfect match, i'd prefer a close match, but if it doens't work that's fine too. I just want something, so LE is falling short on that, it hasn't given me anything i want in 9 months so it's dead in the water.

I know a lot of folks on here really wanted Reaper to succeed with Legendary Encounters, but from day 1 I was skeptical. However, had they done something like Myrthe suggests (village people), I would have a huge cache of villagers (especially if they had sculpted other race village people (halflings, dwarves, elves).

However, their first wave really lacked figures that people needed.

Sorry but this sentence seems to be missing a Verb... or something...

really WAS or WASN'T figures?

I know what i think it is, (wasn't) same with the newest release that isn't even out yet, 9 months later... This has just totally dropped the ball for me.

I don't think so -- I expect that when there are, the Reaper forums will light up.

Actually, if I were in charge at Reaper, I'd make sure the WORLD knew when wave 2 hit. They MUST know they really messed up, that they may have killed this line before it got started, that however reasonable their explanation for delay it doesn't change the fact that since it could kill the line they should have done things differently to keep this from happening. They know about the cynicism to the line in general.

Given all that -- when wave 2 DOES hit (if it ever does...) they really need to trumpet it, really make it clear that this time they're serious. I think if wave 2 hits, and contains a good number of figures shown on the LE page of Reaper's site, and looks GOOD, then the line can still be saved and find an audience - provided that Reaper can get the word out.

The looks good may get an audience from the reaper crowd, but the fact that it is still like only adding 9 figures, i don't think it is going to really wow anybody, espically if we have to wait another 9 months to get 9 more. I would have honestly felt less disaponted if they had released 1 a month, that then shows commitment to the line. It would have shown activity, and not a dead release, or even 2 ever two months to get us to the same number. They really messed up on this to me. They say they are commetted, and they very well maybe, but they just aren't releasing enough to have me take any more intrest than in the concept. It's a great idea but they just blew it for me. And honestly i Don't care if they have "spectacluar" paint jobs, there are some AT-43 i would get, but the price is too high, part of that is the paint detial. i don't care when it is sitting on my table i want something you can tell apart from the others and that is about it.

Oh and honestly, why it took so long to get 9 more, some information goes a LONG way in making people understand... If they had massive problems at the factory etc, i'd rather have them say we had problems, then we know why the delay, and don't jump to ideas about they don't care about the line etc.

(wow i sound like a virus infected vulpes here but going on against Reaper instead of the Sci-Fi line)

I was over on the Reaper page on a whim looking at what thier Pit Fiend looked like, and saw this Post

"Reaperbryan
Apr 30 2008, 03:57 PM
The New batch of 8 have physically arrived in the building less than 10 minutes ago.

I haven't been able to get a copy of each for photos of the production copies, but I am told that we will begin packaging them for distribution the week before Reapercon, they will be for sale at Reapercon for attendees, and then the Official Street date will be May 28th. (that would be the day your FLGS and our online store will have them).

I'll have photos by tomorrow morning."

So they are hitting the street on the 28th, so Pretty Much June So 10 Months for 18 Minis WOOOO HOOO!
